Stale traffic data?

I've got a 265WT, and for some reason it's showing congestion (roads shown in read) where there is none. This has gone on for weeks now without clearing up on its own.

Has anyone else seen this? Any resolution for the problem?

Thanks!

That's traffic report in action

It's occasionally accurate. That's the reason why I don't want to renew my trial subscription.

Hmmm. Working as expected is not what I wanted to hear. "Known bug" or "Temporary glitch" would've meant that it'll eventually get fixed!

Traffic

Are you actually in range of a station providing traffic updates?

You can check out the status of your receiver in detail if you go into diagnostic mode. Search the web for details.

Traffic Diags

This is where you can see it on a 750, may be similar on other models:

From the Map View, tap Speed (brings up speedometer), touch and hold large speedometer circle for about 5 seconds. Tap Next until you get to the correct page. For me it says GTM Status as I'm using an external GTM receiver. Should be something similar on yours.

I checked it over the

I checked it over the weekend, and yes- it's in range of a transmitter.

What's really odd about this is that if you dig into the actual traffic feed, there's a list of incidents along with the affected roads. This does NOT match what's shown in red on the map view.

I guess I'll give Garmin a call.

Get that all the time

I get alerts all the time and they are not there; however, this is to be expected because there is a time lag between the traffic congestion or incident and the actual broadcast by the FM transmitter site. This works both ways, there can be traffic there when the device does not show it being there and it can be gone by the time you get there and it still shows up. I had on occasion where I was turning off on an exit and it showed clear, but as soon as I got on the exit it went red, this was due to the lag between the incident reporting and the transmission.

Not in all areas

A couple years ago, I checked into the traffic data. It was only provided for the large metropolitan areas in California at the time so I opted to avoid this program. It appears that very little has changed.

Not sure it's that simple

When I drill into the traffic results (tap the traffic icon, and list current conditions), the information looks good. However, back on the map view, roads with no current traffic- per the conditions list on the Garmin- are still showing as red.

IMHO- whatever algorithm they are using to color the map is simply not able to clear a road once traffic is gone.

Dubious, but free

I rarely get reliable information with regards to traffic from my 765t but as I don't pay any subscription, I don't get too upset.

As an example, Saturday, my wife & I were on our way to a wedding that was held about an hour from our home. From the start of our trip the 765 consistently showed a yellow alert & claimed that we would be delayed 1 second. Half way through our journey we were brought to a standstill due to construction traffic. We sat nearly motionless for almost 15 minutes without any warning from our Garmin.

We live just outside a major city so I'd be surprised to find we weren't in a coverage zone.
