Easy bucks for the province!!

My concern

Not knowing where the "mobile" photo radar will be parked is definitely my greatest concern.

In other provinces and states do they also use "mobile" photo radars ?

Ontario photo radar

Ontario courts have ruled a long time ago that photo radar would not be an acceptable way to radar someone. Since most of the images turned out blurry.

Unless something's changed within the last few years that I missed.

And if you're really worried about radar traps, I suggest getting your hands on a radar jammer schematic. There's a few floating around on the internet. So much better than a detector.

mobile POIs ?

I am in the process of setting up a Montreal and area POI for myself to include the POIs Start and End of the Mobile cameras with a few POI REMINDERS set along the way of the approved routes.
The routes are between 10 and 15 Kilometers long.

Location of Montreal cameras

There is a link to the Transports Quebec web page in the CTV article.

The link shows the locations of the red light cameras and fixed photo radar. Since mobile units can move, there is no way to be sure where one is.

For what it's worth... Winnipeg has photo radar and red light cameras.. The Winnipeg police show the locations of the red light cameras on their web site...

Photo radar vans are restricted to school zones, playgrounds and construction zones. They move about through the day, so it's impossible to know exactly where they are at any given time.

Thanks ,good link

Thanks, The above link is great click on the camera and you can see the actual detail of the road or interstection and the zone being covered.
It good that I can read French as I could not see an English version of the same link. It just confirms my coorinates and will be very helpful towards my traffic camera for Montreal and area POI .

When will they be added?

The quicker we get them into the "red light and speed cameras" POI files the better. The warnings work really well in Ottawa.

Maybe Miss Poi could put them in her pictures of speed camera section

How tall are those things?

How tall are those things? That picture makes the device look about the size of a sky scraper. I'd imagine 10-12 feet off the road, right?

Here in the Windsor region, they've gone back to painting markers on the roads and using planes to pick us off from up above. It works really well. Can't see them seeing you and they know exactly how fast you're going. They just relay your position to the nearest car.

Starts on the 401 outside of Tilbury and goes in to London. Chatham/Kent county have been picking off just about everyone doing 120+. I noticed them again on the 400 just as you leave Berry.

Zero Tollerance

Apparently there is to be zero speed allowance with these new cameras, if you are one km/hr over the limit it takes a picture. The infractions are then reviewed by the police department and a decision then made whether to issue a ticket or not. If the monthly numbers are down, you will be paying for even 1 km over the limit. One local mayor can’t wait for the trial period to be over so that he can start to introduce them in his city as “a safety measure, not a revenue generating measure”
Give me a break....

YUCK!!!!! i love Montreal. but i hate redlight cameras and speed cams

last time i went to Montreal some drunk guy sat down at my table drinking a beer and lit up a joint. cops came over made him put the joint out and poured out his beer. later on in the day i saw the same guy getting chased down the middle of the street by a pack of skateboarder punks. he was all blooodied up from the skateboarders slamming him in the head with their skateboards. i asked one of the punkers what happened . he told me the drunk guy was mouthing off to one of their skateboarder girls.

Mobile cameras are in yellow, check the original link from jwt873 (http://www.objectifsecurite.gouv.qc.ca/fr/ou/index.asp), there is one along Rte-112 between Richelieu and Rougemont, speed varies between 70-90km/h. See also attached .gpx file in the link:
