Firefox

I use Firefox for everything except Microsoft downloads and the occasional website that won't work properly with anything other than IE. Have had no problems with Firefox on this site or the Garmin site. Currently at Firefox v3.0.10

Have you installed a plugin for Firefox such as NoScript that may require a specific permission?

Try clearing private data under the Tools menu for Firefox. I've also heard of folks getting a corrupt profile for Firefox. If uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox doesn't resolve this, you might want to check the Firefox support forums to see if someone can tell you how to fix the profile issue in case that is the problem.

Firefox exclusively

I only use Firefox, I put IE second fiddle two years ago.
There are very few sites that are IE only sites and Garmin is not one of them. I am Currently using Firefox 3.0.10 and have no problems.

Firefox is a Good Browser

Generally I use Firefox, but still use Internet Explorer. Most website developers use IE for their sites, so it is good to have both browsers. If I had to choose only one, though, I would choose Firefox.

Only Firefox

I only use Firefox and haven't had any problems here. I'm using 3.0.10.

I use Firefox and

Opera most of the time. I very rarely use IE. I haven't had any problems with FF or Opera. In fact, I'm using Opera right now.

I've been using Firefox with no problems (under Linux no less).

What issues are you having? Perhaps if you indicate what is happening when you try to download a file, someone might be able to help.

Firefox and IE Tab add on

I only use Firefox and haven't had any problems. I'm using 3.0.10 with IE Tab 1.5.2 add on. Works great for those sites that need IE. grin

Try disabling all your Add-ons

Kevin,
I also bet it's a problem with an add-on. To figure out which one, in Firefox, go Tools>Add-ons and, one add-on at a time, click it, Disable it, close and reopen Firefox, and then try downloading again. If it works, you found the add-on that's the problem and can either just disable that add-on so you can download, Remove it if it isn't important, adjust it, or seek additional help for it.

I'd been using Firefox for years but recently switched to IE8 because for me, IE8 was loading webpages faster than Firefox. YMMV on this. (Probably an add-on slowing me up!) But I also switched because IE8 has an "In-Private Browsing" feature that lets you browse and click links without collecting cookies and other debris. I use regular IE8 on websites where I get a benefit from the cookies, like this one, and use In-Private when I'm going to websites where I get no benefit from cookies (as in clicking links in news websites).

The next major release of Firefox, reportedly due soon, will also have a similar feature.

Firefox Rules

I am not having any problems with Firefox either. I am currently using version 3.0.10 and never use IE any longer. I got burned with previous versions of IE, tried Opera but finally settled on Firefox as my default web browser. I have not had any problems on any website that a plugin did no fix ...

Same here... I also use Firefox and Opera on Linux and never had a problem with Garmin downloads there either... unless it requires the unit to be connected for it to verify something...

Firefox can get MS Updates...

No need for that either, windiz update will let you get security updates for your machine using Firefox (or Opera or Netscape or Firebird) without going to MS.

Re- my Firefox delema

Thank you for the replies.

(1) When I connect to my computer via USB, my computer recognizes my Nuvi and will open all my nuvi folders.

(2) It will also allow me to use the Web-updater as well.

***(3) Heres lies the problem. when I go to https://my.garmin.com/maps/updates.htm and try to connect my Nuvi via USB, it sometimes doesn't recognize my Nuvi and when it does, it says no updates available. (this is when I know there are updates available)

If I do the same in IE, it works fine. So I've been going to IE for the downloads.

what am I doing wrong?

Thanks,
Kevin M.

Just close the FF browser

Just close the FF browser down before you plug in the nuvi then restart FF after you plug it in.

Works for me every time.

Ditto to about 50 comments above, only use FireFox and no problems.

Two extensions that may cause problems unless they have the proper permissions are NoScript and AdBlockPlus. I wouldn't surf without them, but they do have to be configured to allow permissions for trusted sites on first visit. If you have either try allowing them for Garmin, or disabling them temporarily while on the Garmin site, and see if it changes anything.

Map updates are listed by clicking on the myMaps tab of the myGarmin page:
https://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/customers/myMapsHome.htm

You do NOT have to connect your Nuvi to obtain the list using this method. It "remembers" your unit(s) from when you first registered.

Firmware and other updates are obained with the WebUpdater program (which does not use Firefox)
