ran across one that crossed a train bridge love geocaching but why make it crazy

crazy geocaches

when you saw the bridge, you could have chose not to cross. Different people have different meanings for crazy.

I'll Cross That Bridge When I Come to It.

If the geocache was on the bridge, or on the railroad right-of-way, then it is most likely illegal and can be removed by reporting it. Exlcusions to this might be an abandoned railroad line, not in service, etc.

If it was just more convenient to get to it by crossing the bridge than by going around another way, then that, as BobDee said was your choice.

Depending on where it was, and the access to it, I usually look at overhead maps to get a general idea of where the cache is. If It's really close to highway X, but crosses rivers, takes you onto a railroad bridge or some other similar example; I usually will come in from the longer way that will keep me dry, and with my kids - off of restricted property.

There is (or was) one in the NW suburbs that had part one on the middle of a walkway over a busy street. Cars honking constantly, and police always shagging people off of the bridge that were innocently looking for the cache. Apparently, it was suspicious for all the different people hanging out or climbing around on the bridge. If I remember correctly, it was a combination of that at part one, and the flooding away of the final part two that this one doesn't exist any longer.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

When caching goes wrong...

This was in the news a while back -- I'd certainly qualify this as a "crazy" cache...

Most of my own caching stories are pretty tame. Only crazy things for my wife and I would be seeking a cache (or two...) out here in the AZ desert when it was clearly getting too hot and we didn't have enough water packed. Sometimes you've just got to call it quits out here, and just stay under cover or inside until dark. Those situations are 100% our fault, of course... Did make for some crazy stories that my wife and I remind each other of, though.

Ammo Case on a bridge

that cach is a crazy one alright, Don't even need a gps to find that one. Yikes, what was the placer thinking? shock

Barking Up the Wrong Tree Here

Seems to me these complaints ought to be made to http://www.geocaching.com. They're the ones that have turned the geocaching landscape into Somalia because if they were to actually take leadership for promoting the game in a responsible manner, they might get surprised sued!

But the odds are they'd just delete your post, anyway. So, who's got the most recent Wal-Mart POIs?

What's the GC#?

So what is the GC# of the cache? If it really is on a train bridge, and if the bridge is actually active and not an abandoned bridge, then it NEEDS to be reported. It's easy to do. Just log a "needs archived" note with the reason why it needs to be archived. The note will automagically go not only to the cache owner but also to the reviewer. The reviewer will contact the cache owner for clarification. If it violates the guidelines then it will be archived by the reviewer. It's easy. If the cache is unethical then report it. If you don't then YOU will be part of the problem.
