Another Mapsource Question

Before getting to question, hopefully Motorcycle Mama will read this. My apologies for not thanking you for your help on 2/22. Your response answered my question. Just tried it today and works perfectly.

Now to my question of the day:

Is there any way to turn off showing waypoints on the map. I have a number of waypoints loaded in Mapsource into a number of different categories. Cannot find anywhere in manual where I can just show some waypoints not all of them.

Thanks

You are welcome. Glad to be of help.

In MapSource, you can use Categories.

Open up the Waypoint Properties. Assign the Waypoint to a category of your choice.

Then in the Waypoint Tab, use the drop down list to select the category you want to show.

You can only show one category at a time, though.

Also, in the menus if you go to Edit > Preferences and click on the Waypoint Categories tab, you can edit the Category names.

Thanks again for the

Thanks again for the response.

I have done all of those things but the map shows all of the waypoints, not just those of the selected category. As a matter of fact, even if I choose an empty category all of the waypoints are still shown.

Have also tried changing edit>preferences>display>services, again no luck

Any other ideas as to what I am doing wrong.

Dan

Waypoints

I don't think that it is possible to have waypoints not show up. This is an issue that goes back for years. It would have to be a user selectable option on the GPS and Garmin should incorporate this as a feature.

It is likewise as annoying to have vias announced. They too cannot be turned off.

In a similar tone, constantly announcing "Recalculating" was equally annoying. Fortunately TurboCCC found a solution to that one.

Are you using the drop down list in the Waypoints tab where it reads "Show Waypoints in Category:"?

Also, the Display > Services doesn't have anything to do with Waypoints. It has to do with the built in Points of Interest.

What version of MapSource?

This is an issue on the GPS unit, but should not be an issue in MapSource.

That is exactly where I am

That is exactly where I am using it. All categories is the default and all waypoints show on map. I then select no categories and all waypoints still all show map., the only difference being that no waypoints (all are assigned to categories) are shown in the "show waypoints in category box". If I select a category, only those waypoints assigned to that category show in "show waypoints in category box", however all waypoints are still plotted on the map.

For an older piece of software, this sure hasn't been developed very well.

What version are you using?

I'm using version 6.13.7 which is the version I would recommend using.

When I set a category for a Waypoint and then select that category to show, only that Waypoint shows.

If I set "No Categories" to show, all the Waypoints except the one for which I set a category show.

@ dkabat:

FYI, MM's method also works using Mapsource version 6.15.

The "Show waypoints in category: No Categories" shows all waypoints that have not been assigned to a category. This behavior may not be what you were expecting smile

@ mm:

Motorcycle Mama, you continue to amaze me with your Mapsource gems! wink

Oh well - I am using 6.15.4

Oh well - I am using 6.15.4 - but it has been doing this forwever. It isn't too bothersome unless I'm looking at a large map. If only 2 or 3 miles it is usable.

Maybe this is a problem with my system - XP Pro fully up to date, or some other software I am using.

Thanks all for trying

Dan
