Arizona To Install 350 "MORE" Speed Cameras

Not that I don't speed myself, but as long as AZ keeps the threshold within the reasonable range to account for speedometer fluxuations, how can we really be that mad that they are getting better at forcing us to follow the law?

You may remember that last year the same station announced that effective immediately, all the freeways were going to become toll roads, and that the toll would be equal to the highway number. So driving on I-10 would cost a dime, but driving on the loop 303 would cost $3.03. I think they even had someone from ADOT involved in that one, and I think it turned out to be "not a good career move" for him.

Joke or not I wouldn't be surprised if they did put up more cameras... Too much of big brother

I have to disagree, big brother did not decide we should have speed laws to save lives. We the public have decided we must have rules to survive. If you think big brother is too much in this case then I don't really think you are thinking clearly in my opinion. Laws are laws and if the speed limit is wrong then you should try to get the law changed, not break it.

I vacation in Arizona. All i can say is thank god for the red light and speed cameras warnings. Its nice to get the heads up even if your not speeding.

You are correct... The LAW is the LAW... But don't you think our hard earned tax payer money could be utilized more responsibly then placing cameras every two miles? Not to mention the money we as tax payers spent on the 40+ speed enforcement vehicles, road signs and maintenance of such.

I never suggested the law be changed and I certainly never suggested that I break them.

I'm sure there will be many many more debates about this. My thoughts are that every two miles might be a little excessive, but the return on investment for these cameras is pretty high. While they may cost a couple of thousand dollars, they can easily make that money up in a couple of weeks. In the end it will force people to slow down, by that time they have probably paid for themselves.

In the end, they might not make as much money, but they will have served what should be their main purpose. Make the roads safer to drive on, which is something that is hard to put a price tag on.

The cameras would not cost the state any money. The camera company pays for the cameras and they get a perentage of the "take". Win-Win for the state.

The sad part is, this type of thing is happening more and more in today's economic times. Tickets that used to be issued 'in the name of safety' have become tickets issued 'in the name of revenue'.
