Police say cameras will be taken down if people slow down

Starting Wednesday morning, speed cameras will start issuing tickets to lead-footed motorists in Takoma Park, Md.

Takoma Park is late to the speed camera game. The District and Montgomery County have been utilizing the hated devices for years.

Takoma Park's cameras are installed at the 7200 block of New Hampshire Avenue and the 500 block of Ethan Allen Avenue. Those stretches are considered "problem areas," due to numerous traffic and pedestrian accidents.

For a while, the cameras have been issuing "warning" tickets. Now, they're firing live ammunition: a $40 fine, albeit no drivers license points.

Takoma Park Police Chief Ronald Ricucci said he knows the cameras will be no more popular with motorists in his suburban community than they have been elsewhere.

"Our ultimate goal, as I told the [Takoma Park city] council, is that we want to take down the cameras [when] we get compliance with our speed limits," Chief Ricucci said. "Our object is to reduce speed, reduce accidents and save lives."

Does anyone have any info (i.e. actual location) on these cameras? If not, I might be able to go through Takoma Park this wknd.

At Sligo Creek & NH Ave

I spotted and submitted the N.H. Ave cams just after they were put up... They're now in the latest POI Factory database, of course!

I don't go into T.Park proper very much so I didn't see that one. Coords for it would be good.

The cams on New Hampshire Ave are just southwest of Sligo Creek Pkwy at 7225 and 7182 N.H. Ave. I'm 99% sure that I got the speed right (35) but if you go by there you should verify that.

It's about the Line- If a line can be drawn between the powers granted and the rights retained, it would seem to be the same thing, whether the latter be secured by declaring that they shall not be abridged, or that the former shall not be extended.
