Setting up SD or Micro SD Cards

Just got the 885 T. I like it a lot more than the other two I've had. There are a few complaints though. First, there's no Manual for this Model !! There is an "800 series" Manual that isn't at all accurate for the 885 T. When I tried to register it, the response was Serial Number already used !! What's with that ?? Finally, there must be someone out there that can tell us or lead us to some file that explains what we can put on the Micro SD 8 GB Card that worls well !! I found I can put all the MP3's in a folder and the Garmin sorts them out to Artist and Album. POI's go in a "POI" Folder along with GPX, BMP, JPEG files. Then, use POI Loader program from Garmin. I do have a problem with Album Artist Cover Photos appear in Photo Album !! How do I delete them ?? There must be a source for proper set-up !! Garmin hasn't done it THAT I CAN FIND !!! Thanks all for the great Posts and all you do to make this a great site. Thanks to you too Miss POI, Jimbo

One more thing !! 885 T

The "Manual" shows that your Back-up Camera will show on 885 T when you put transmission in reverse !! There is nothing on 885T that allows you to set this function as stated in Manual !! Misprint ?? Forgotten feature ?? But then, there really isn't a manual for this unit !! Thanks all, Jimbo

Manuals 885 T

The nuvi855 isn't, it's actually an 805 and the 885 T is just a Quickstart but thanks for the comeback. Jim

Are you putting these POI files (GPX, BMP, JPEG) files on your GPSr or PC?

You should be placing them in a POI folder on your PC. POI Loader will place Custom POI poi.gpi file on your Nuvi.

Sorry if I am misreading your quote.

Backup Camera

So, as stated on page 50, you do not have:
Tools> Settings> Backup Camera ???

False Manual & True life

Correct, I do not have have those prompts. I can't figure out if it's an error on my unit, an error in the Manual they suggest to use because they don't have one yet or what !! Since I like the Garmin GPS much better than the one Lexus supplies, I would like to use the back-up camera built into the car with the Garmin. The Garmin is many times better than the latest version that Lexus sells updates for. The update actually cost as much as the 885T !! I guess I might get it all resolved on Monday if I can get through to support.
About the files. I have them on the Micro SD in various folders. One for each Artist MP3, One for POI's, GPX and related BMP and MP3's. I use POI Loader to install POI's into Garmin. If I add a POI, I put it on Micro SD and Install. This gives me a Backup on the Micro SD that also holds Audio, Pictures, Music, etc. It works but there might be more that can be done.

Camera

Well it may be one of those menus that will not appear unless the device is connected. The Lexus built in camera may not be compatable. Better check the Lexus specs against what the Garmin manual says it requires.

Then you have to figure out how to connect it. From my experience with onboard electronics, there's a lot of proprietary stuff used to keep the after-market folks from using their products.

Just look at all the different cell phone chargers on the rack in Wal-Mart. It got so bad the Feds finally said "enough" "one connector will fit all" and I say it's about time. Everytime you upgrade, it's all new accessories.

Hope you get it working.

backup camera on 885t

hello,

i also have this question. I have been trying to search for an answer too. I have a backup camera in my vehicle too. According to our manual, we should see backup camera under settings. I do not see it in my nuvi 885 as well.

someone suggested maybe its because it would only show up when connected to the camera/ video input.

I also read that a VIB10/ VIB11 is necessary.
from my searches of this VIB11, it seems its an integration kit for the 600 series, and its meant for audio integration to the car. i do not understand. how?

how do i connect a video in to my 885?

thank you !

Backup Camera & Manual

I talked to Garmin and verified a KIT is required !! I also found that when you silence the onboard GPS, the backup camera still displays on the Lexus Screen so, who needs it !!

About the Manual for the 885T !! None in the wings because the Manual for the 800 "Series" is for the 885T !! That means all 800 Series do the same thing ??? Doesn't make any sense at all.

Besides storage what can you do with the SD card

I have put a number of MP3 files on the SD card and also some JPEGs. What else can you do with the SD card? Will the garmin nuvi 760 automatically begin using the space on the SD card when the internal memory is maxed out?

Garmin may make a good unit, but they have a long way to go before I would consider their customer service good. No user manual with the product and a web page that is difficult isn't my idea of good service.

MP3 and JPG files

My Garmin is a 750 so I know nothing about the backup cameras but my 750 handles mp3's and jpg's as a group. I like to listen to audio books on long trips but I was finding it extremely hard to play a book. It seems that the unit plays mp3 files in almost a random order. I finally built a playlist and then selected the playlist from the mp3 player. Everything is right with the world now.

Garmin looks in all of the folders for mp3's and will play them regardless of where you store them. They can be on a SD card or in the unit's main memory, makes no difference to my 750. Same is true for jpg's. Folders make it easier for me to find the files but Garmin doesn't care about folders.
