Nuvi 750 quirk?

Whenever I bring my unit indoors to listen to my MP3's I get a "cannot find satellites" message after a few minutes.

The unit asks me if I want to go to the GPS simulator.

I always say yes just to get rid of this warning.

When I put the unit back into the car and go to use it--- all I get is "drawing maps" on my screen for about 5 minutes.

The GPS seems to work, it knows my speed and direction and it knows where I am with the "Where Am I" feature but no map appears, only "drawing map" appears on the View Map screen.

Is this common?

If so why does this take so long to draw the map?

Just say no

Next time it asks if you want to go to simulator mode say no, it should have an easier time locating satellites later than changing modes.

You actually should say yes,

You actually should say yes, or better yet, go into that mode first when you know you will use it indoors. If you say no, it will keep trying to get a satellite, probaly tell you again, and use the battery more doing it, and use CPU power.

What you describe is not normal from the Garmins I have used. If I go from simulated to using the satellite, it seems to work normally, including drawing the maps. Try putting into the simulated mode when you first come inside if you are going to use the MP3 player, and see if that works when you go back to satellite mode.

Have you ever cleared the trip log?

Everywhere you go the 7XX series creates a trip log. If you go to tools/settings/map you get the option to hide/show the trip log. I think the default setting is hide. Well this file gets pretty large over time and it will take longer and longer to load maps.
Go To Tools/My Data and clear Trip log.
This should help for faster map loading.
I've got into the habit of clearing the trip log every couple of days, when I use the GPS.

SD card slowing unit?

Is it normal for my Nuvi 750 to take an extremely longer period of time to draw maps when my 16gb SD card is inserted?

I have approx. 7.75gb of music on the card and I have noticed when I turn it on (when card is already inserted) it takes approximately 3 to 5 minutes to draw maps.

Without the card, it takes no where near this long.

Also with the card inserted, and when going outside after unit has been used inside (no satellites being seen) it takes about 5 minutes to "aquire satellites".

Seems like the SD card may be causing problems, although it works great.

Any feedback?

It takes a while to read all

It takes a while to read all that data and move it to temp on the disk. One thing you might try is deleting the tracks every so often. That will also slow down the loading of the maps initially.

Not here

I have not found that to be the case with my 750. Once I go back outside with it, the "Drawing map" appears for a brief time (same as turning it on), then it's back to normal.

I also use an 8gb card with about 7gb of MP3s loaded. A cold boot takes about a minute, but after that, no change in response time compared with no card loaded.
