Hello to all, I am just wondering if there is bundle of Red light and speed cameras for Canada, or do they have to be down loaded separately by Province? I am computor literate on a mac, but this all seems very hard for me. Also, I do have the procimity Icon in the tools, but no metres adjustment. Can I have a Alert show up and or warnings of any sort. Thanks if you can help. Wayne
Speed and red light cameras and alerts
Man, is this old man confused. Should the garmin 255w be connected to the mac? Can I download Direct? Sorry for the simple questions I need. Thanks . Wayne
I did manage to download proximity icon and the It shows up with PoIs and Audio, thats it?
Always in need of help with my Garmin 265w gps, and downloading on a Imac Leapard. Thanks always. Soon my Grandaughter will help me, but until then?????

Are you using POIloader for mac? Don't use mac but should still load similar.
Mac Forum
You may want to look at the mac forum, as some poi-loader versions do not work very well. I think they found the beta did what you need to do.
You save the csv files in a folder on your computer, then run the poi-loader. Point it to that folder and it will load all the files in the folder. You will have to have the nuvi hooked up with a usb cable to do this.
The file can be edited if you wish, but you shouldn't have to as space isn't a concern like it was with the older models. As you have figured out, the icon needs to be the same name as the csv file except for the extension. Be careful of this as I think the mac likes to make a double extension at times (redlight.bmp.bmp) or something.
Let me know what else you need.

It's working but??
Thanks Daniel, my speed cameras and alerts are working. Only issue is they bong a block away from the trap. Are there any downloads or tools to adjust the distance. Seem to be getting a 1/4 mile bong and one just at the camera. Really appreciate your help. Also, what is the extras file actually for? Wayne

I dont have a Mac, but you
I dont have a Mac, but you should be able to put speed or proximity settings using the Manual Mode instead of the Express Mode.

Extras
The only thing that I have in my extras is Custom Poi's. There may be other content that you can load, but I don't know of any. Some of the "old timers" may have some say, but it could be something that was developed years ago and then technology moved past it.
If I remember correctly the problem with some versions of the mac poi loader did not allow you to load in manual mode. If you load in manual mode you will be able to determine how many feet you want to set your alerts for. When using express it defaults to what it sounds like you are using.

Fodor's Travelguides go in Extras in addition to Custom POIs. The current version of POI Loader for the Mac functions like the beta did for the last year and does allow Manual mode.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

You choose Manual mode within the POI Loader program -- not on the gps.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
This is for the Mac People

You are not bugging. When you start the poi loader in the PC version, you get the choice of automatic or manual to load your pois. It then goes through each of the individual csv files in your folder and asks if you want to load or ignore the file and if you want to set a proximity alert for speed or distance. My understanding is that not all Mac versions of POI loader have this feature - and that is why you may need to read or ask over there to get the right version.
Remember that if you set a speed - it will do it for all the locations and only alert you over that speed you set, not the one set for that location. But you can change the distance manually without a problem.

If you use he manual mode
If you use the manual mode and you pick ignore it will skip that file and not load to gps.If you don't want to add alert to a certain file just click next and go to the next one.The file will still be included with your download but with no alert.
Poiloader can be downloaded at http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3697 this should meet your requirements.
Changes made from version 2.0.1 to 2.1.0:
Fixed sending of linked data in GPX files
Added manual mode
Added option to remove all POIs from a device
Added support for 16-bit mono encoded WAV files .It appears you can load wav files with out having to install the sox file.

Nuvi 255W
I am using Nuvi 255W with MSN Direct. I have 2 questions is there a way to shut off the sound with
the touch pad? I found the mute which mutes everything. 2 question will the traffic work if I don't switch to traffic mode ?
Mark
The traffic will work all
The traffic will work all the time you are in the coverage area unless you go to tools, settings, traffic and clear enable traffic.
The mute button is the only way I know of to shut the volume down or turn volume all the way down.

If you want to to turn Alerts off (and sounds), go to Tools>Settings>Proximity Points>Change Proximity Alerts>uncheck Custom POIs.

It should work fine with a Mac
I also have a Mac and it works fine for me. I use the Garmin Web Updater and POI Loader without issue. Plus Garmin has added a couple more apps for the Mac.
Garmin also has a Mac plug-in on their website that will allow you to do just about anything that a PC user can do from their site.
I would suggest that you download and follow the instructions from the website for each application (Web Updater and POI Loader) and you should be fine.
Good Luck,
Ronnie

Funny thing is I was zooming in on Canada the other day and as I zoomed out there were buses all around my area. So I don't really no what the heck I did.Have the following installed. Garmin Map Install, Web updater, map manager, poi updater and Garmin road trip, and comunicator. Must note the school zone was a csv file.
