FM Traffic--Antenna in Charger unit or GPS?

Another question about traffic receivers. Is the traffic antenna in the traffic receiver mount or does it use the gps antenna? If it uses the gps antenna, would using my external antenna help the traffic reception?
Obviously the better the reception, the more often I would receive traffic updates.

It is in the charger itself.

Thanks...I was afraid of that

Darn it...must be no way to increase reception. Thanks for your quick response.

FM Traffic--Antenna in Charger unit or GPS?

The traffic antenna is in the traffic receiver and the power cord. The external GPS antenna would not help Traffic reception even a little bit.

That makes sense

That makes sense, like clock fm radios that use the power cord as an antenna

I'm unsure about other

I'm unsure about other models, but the 3xx and 6xx Nuvis have external GPS antenna connectors on the flip up receiver.

EDIT..OOPS. I lost my mind for a moment. He's talking about TRAFFIC not GPS sat reception.
Sorry...
You may now commence with the beatings and assults.

I wish you were right

Too bad you weren't right, that would be real cool using the external gps antenna to boost traffic reception. Oh well!

FM Traffic - Increasing signal Strength

The only thing I can think of that "may" help reception, is getting one of those Cig.Plug. adapter extensions. You can plug that into your cig.plug and then plug the FM/Charger plug into that and then put it on your Dashboard so it may get a little clearer signal.

I wouldn't be too keen on having more stuff laying on my dashboard though.... but it's a thought.

Get the cord up in the air

I live on the fringe area of Philadelphia reception. I find that if I loop the power cord over my passenger side visor I can get the traffic data. As I get closer to the city it is no longer necessary.

The cord is the antenna so increasing height and getting it up above the metal door seem to help.

Thanks for the ideas

Thanks for the tips. Now I just have to convince "Mama" that we need one when we occasionally go out of state. I'll wait nearer to the time of vacation to broach the subject again. I made the mistake of praising my new smartphone with internet access, that I now had traffic info via Microsoft Live.
