You will probably need to download sox.exe. you will also have to change mp3 alerts to wav. I would also suggest making a directory on the card and downloading to it.

the first time you turn on the nuvi it will ask you if you want to download custom poi file. you can download it or not download it. It should still read it either way.

how do you switch from sox to mp3

sox.exe

sox.exe is an executable that needs to go in the same directory where the poiloader.exe .

you will need to conver the mp3 file to wav file. there is software available to do that. I use one called protected music converter. sometimes people furnish wav files with poi files, but most times it is mp3.

Here is a little outline of

Here is a little outline of how to do it.
a. Download the latest PoiLoader file at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/ .
b. Download Sox Exe at http://rapidshare.com:80/files/139638423/sox.zip .
c. After un-zipping Sox Exe file place it in your Garmin folder where the PoiLoader exe file is located on the computer.
d. The wav file for alerts will be named the same as the CSV or GPX file except for the extensions.
e. You can make your own wav files by going to http://www.research.att.com/~ttsweb/tts/demo.php and typing in what you want it to say or use a program to convert mp3 files to wav. When using the conversion it must be saved as PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono

BooDee has been converting MP3 sounds to wav.You may find the ones you want on site.Just click on sounds at top of page.

Should I be able to do this with a Nuvi 200?

I have a slot, and got a card, I load it and nothing. Of course, it's blank since it is new out of a box. I insert it into my PC but cannot get it to mount there either. My assumption is that it needs to be formatted but since I put it into the Nuvi first, maybe it is now formatted for Nuvi and not in a format the PC will not recognize.

The Garmin POI loader software sees and mounts my Nuvi 200 just fine.

Then again maybe the slot on a 200 is disabled.

Hook your gps unit up to the

Hook your gps unit up to the computer and insert the sd card into the gps unit.Go to my computer and click on it and you should see a drive for the sd card.

When you run poiloader you will see see screen find device make sure you select the proper one. If using sd card use the pull down window .The arrow located across from device and selects the sd card.It is easy to miss the pull down window.

You may have to get a card reader if you bought the sdhc card, they won't read in all drives on some computers. It should still show up on your gps unless the card is bad.

A problem with the 2xx series or at least the 270

You have to take the card out of the slot, attach the 200 to your computer, then install the card. If I just hook my 270 to the computer with the card installed, the computer finds it then the 270 shuts off... A little quirk I find annoying...

it works now thanks

After I updated the firmware to 5.00 it accepted the card right away. I had previously searched on mygarmin for map updates, but didn't know about the webupdater application that must be installed separately. I had 4.7 or earlier on the unit I bought new 11/08
