765T reboots and mp3 player

I thought that I had finally gotten past the reboot issue with my 765T when I upgraded to firmware 3.0, but yesterday while playing a 25 minute mp3, it happened again. evil mad sad

And unlike the times in the past when it restarted itself, and resumed the route, this time I was not on a route, only in map mode.

In the past, all I had to do was go back into the mp3 player screen, and hit play, and it would resume right where it was. This time when I hit play it resumed, but not where it left off...it reverted back to an earlier part of the track.

here are my specifics

  • nuvi 765T
  • firmware 3.0
  • maps version 2009 (not updated, out of the box version)
  • Transend 8GB SDHC card (all mp3's located here)
  • well under the Garmin recommended 1000 track limit

any other 7x5 owners experiencing this? rolleyes

I am trying to hold off upgrading the firmware, due to hearing about traffic, WebUpdater and mapping issues, that others have had after upgrades to 3.1 and 3.3

On the other hand, two upgrades have come out since I upgraded from my original 2.3 or 2.5, can't recall which now, to 3.0, and I read somewhere here that Garmin says 3.4 will be coming along soon.

Any advice? rolleyes

Reboot on 755T 3.1

It happened to me several times on a recent trip with my 755T running version 3.1. Some reboots occurred when playing MP3 files, some without. The reboots only occurred in areas where I was receiving a traffic signal (where the traffic icon was showing). That may be related or just a coincidence. One time a reboot happened at the same instant I got a POI alert (bong) for a rest stop.

thanks for the quick feedback

yeah, that is part of the problem in tracking this down...I am not sure I can see a distinct pattern crying

Upgrading to the latest (at

Upgrading to the latest (at time of this post 3.3) OS seems to have ended virtually all random shutdowns for me, and from reading the other posts for many or most others. I understand the reluctance to update when Garmin has a history of introducing new bugs each time, but I would have to say at this point complaining about shutdowns without using the version that fixes it isn't going to solve that problem.

I am not aware of web updating issues with 3.3, my 765T cerainly no longer has that problem in 3.3. There are no reports that I have seen of map problems - in fact 3.3 specifically did fix them. The only real problem seems to be some are not getting how many minutes a delay of traffic is - but they are getting the traffic data. I would suggest that you upgrade to 3.3, and just deal with the possibility of not getting the minutes of delay, but having most other issues resolved.

755T and reboots

I wasn't complaining or refusing to upgrade. I have upgraded to 3.3, but at the time of my trip (early Feb.) when I experienced the reboots, 3.1 was the current version so that is what I was using. I have not had any reboots on 3.3 so far, but I don't live in an area that receives a traffic signal. I never had any reboot problems on my 755T with any of the older versions until I took the trip and drove through areas where I was receiving Navteq traffic information.

My comment was more for the OP, though your post did not indicate you have indeed updated from 3.1. smile

I had the 765T with the same

I had the 765T with the same problem. That's why I upgraded to the 885T..I firmly believe the problem resides in the bluetooth software. Garmin utilizes the A2DP bluetooth software in the 7x5 series but in the 8x5 series, they reverted back to the original bluetooth software. I no longer have the issue of rebooting or mp3 problems as I did with 3 765's and one 785. Problem resolved.

I have noticed my 765T

I have noticed my 765T restart/reboot itself for no apparent reason a couple times. It also seems to 'stagger'/pause momentarily when switching screens (such as when you hit the back button or something and the current screen is redrawn to the new screen - sometimes about half way through it pauses in the middle of drawing the screen and then continues - any one experience that also?

.

On my 765T, it rebooted quite a bit with v3.0. I just upgraded to v3.4 and it has rebooted once. I have noticed that my unit tends to reboot only when performing multiple tasks, i.e. routing, traffic reception, bluetooth, and playing mp3 files simultaneously.

No Bluetooth

Except that the 755T doesn't have bluetooth and the reboot problem occurs in that model too. It looks like there might be multiple causes for the reboot problem.

Dont be afraid to upgrade

The only problem I have with my 755t with version 3.30 is that it will reboot once in a while playing the MP3 player. I like this software version as much as 2.20 which to me was the flawless.

Is there a version 3.4 for the 7x5? I am running 3.3 and just tried WebUpdater, but it didn't find anything.

Good point, alandb, the only

Good point, alandb, the only other thing I can think of is that the 765T has the 3D building view, thus, the 2009.11 map update and the 885T does not have the 3D building view, either, or the 2009.11 update.

I have had that symptom too

didn't really bother me compared to the reboots and mp3 issue, but it does seem to be something to consider while attempting a diagnosis and resolution to the problems

Thanks for replying - glad to know I'm not the only one with the problem.
