Speed Alert

Hi

When i set speed alert ( with its proximity distance ) in a gpx or csv file, will it alert me if i am not exceeding the allowed speed ?. if yes , then it will be annoying and useless alert.

thanks

.

If you set a speed alert, you will get a single alert (tone and visual) at the distance prescribed by the alert regardless of your speed.

You will only CONTINUE to get an alert if you are traveling ABOVE the set speed.

Look at this

Take alook at this I did this on my gps and it works great it will only alert you if you are speeding.

Theoretically, it shouldn't...
...however

I believe some units exhibit this behaviour. It's hard to tell if it's just the normal variation between Garmin Development teams, or a bug.

My Nüvi 310 definitely doesn't do this (and I don't believe the 760 does either).

(I know because I have a POI with a 124mph alert that never triggers. Before you ask, it is set that high to access a side-effect of alerts: their bitmap displays at lower zoom level than normal smile )

In fact, here in the UK, with our myriad Speed and Redlight cameras, many of us use a 3rd party program that reformats the input data. One of its features is a 'doubling-up' of all the alerts. This ensures that you get at least one alert that there is a camera there; with subsequent alerts only occuring if you are travelling faster than the trigger speed.

Of course, I suppose speed alerts could also be triggered eroneously, just through glitches in the GPS positional data.

Buffer

The nuvi350 seems to have a 5-8 mph buffer; i.e. if the alert is set at 55 mph, it will sound at anything above 49 mph.

I have a gpx file that I wrote containing school zones. I have both the speed alert (set to 20 mph) as well as the proximity set (at 1000 feet). The way the file works with my Nuvi 750 is that I get a bong-bong at about 1000 feet from the zone along with a banner at the top of the screen telling me what the alert is for. Then, after entering the proximity zone, I get a bing-bing-bing that continues as long as I'm both in the zone and exceeding the speed that is set in the file along with a red banner.

Using the

nuvi 250W, the speed alerts just warn me of a known upcoming spot. That's enough for me as I always make sure I'm doing the speed limit and watching the road. The GPSr just beeps and that lets me know what's ahead.

What models have speed

What models have speed alert? Where is it located at?

I have a nuvi 200.

When you install custom pois

When you install custom pois for you unit and use poiloader to install them. You can use the manual mode to set distance or speed for your alert to sound when approaching the coordinates.
