current.gpx Files won't change

I'm trying to use Easy GPS or some other free software to help me add POIs to my Nuvi 260.
When I open the current.gpx file in the gpx folder, I can change all the POIs in Easy GPS. I save it over the current.gpx file, (the file size even changes accordingly) but when I close everything down and unplug my Garmin, when I open Favorites, all the old ones are still as they were before I edited them. When I then plug the Garmin back into the computer and look into the gpx folder, the current.gpx file has reverted back to its previous contents.
It's like I'm opening a file, changing it, saving it, then opening it back up and none of the changes stick.
Any ideas?
I believe the current.gpx
I believe the current.gpx file gets rewritten from the internal GPS memory each time the gps starts up. So any changed made to current will be overwritten.
If you want to add custom poi's uses POILoader and it will place them under extras, custom POIs. There are plenty of threads on this site for how to use POILoader.

Rename
The solution is to rename the revised file to Temp.gpx. It will then ADD those entries to the existing favorites. Thus, you will have duplicates unless you erase all the favorites before rebooting. By using the name Temp, it will be erased when you reboot -- other names can be used, but you will need to delete them manually.
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
