nuvi 350 routing question ('a better route is available')

on the last couple of long trips that I have used the nuvi 350 I have got 'a better route is available' prompt.

The prompt came up after a couple of hours of driving... Any idea why it takes so long to determine the better route?

From the nuvi, you can't tell what is better; only option is to accept or cancel the better route option.

Just curious what the logic is to recalculate a better route after driving so far.

Perhaps there is an "avoidance" set and enabled that applies somewhere along your travels and not in your home area.
For example maybe "avoid toll roads" is selected and somewhere in your travels you approach a section of toll road - then you may be presented with "a better route is available" . Check and see what if any avoidances are selected and maybe something will ring a bell.

From main menu-->wrench icon-->navigation-->avoidances

while you are in that menu area;
check and see which "route preference" is selected sometimes I have noticed rerouting differences with faster route and shorter distance.

Better Route

I don't know if this helps, but in my c530 manual (who reads manuals anyway?) it says "As you approach your destination, the c530 evaluates road options which may result in a better route. When the c530 finds a better route, xxx is displayed in the lower-right corner of the map."

To be honest, I haven't seen the symbol appear on my c530 yet.

not sure about that...

given that the option would apply to any route that is calculated, I don't think that is the issue... wouldn't the calculation include the avoidence in the initial route?

I just thought it was strange (and confusing!) after driving for a couple of hours to get prompted for a better route... wiht no changes to the options.

Sound also note that I don't have the traffic option.

hours from destination

the prompts for a better route came after a couple of hours of driving... with 10 hours to go to destination so proximity to the destination should be a factor.

Last trip was from Houston, Texas to Indiana.

Apparently the nuvi does not

Apparently the nuvi does not distinguish between US-highways and Interstate Highways.

nuvi 350 routing question ('a better route is available')

I recall seeing this message after I had missed a turn and my Nuvi 350 had recalculated the route for me. I do have the traffic option. My route was less than 40 miles.

I had it come up with the same message. However the route didn't change when I previewed the 'turns'.

Nuvi 350 - A better route is available

I get this from time to time. It seems it is always near my destination and this is what the manual says. I always wonder why it didn't give the better route to begin with.

The manual on page 5 states: "As you approach your destination, the nuvi evaluates road options, which may result in a better route. When the nuvi finds a better route, the yellow icon appears in the right corner of the map. Touch the icon to take the better route."

I wonder if it then stores the route I have taken and will give that to me next time? It just seems strange that it gives it to me as I approach my destination.

I have found no reasonable explanation for this any where on the web.
