Full Time Job...Attorney

I have done criminal defense and civil litigation since 1979. For the last 7 years my part time job is loading trucks and covering the shop for my GF's antiques business (mostly weekends) and, just recently, I took on another PT job doing landscaping...looking to retire from law in a couple years and hoping the landscaping gig works out as I hate sitting around and love being outdoors.

Professional Photographer

I'm a photographer, which is also the reason why I wound up buying my modern GPS unit.

I'd had an old Garmin eMap from the 1990's, but it only had the major highways and stopped receiving updates long ago. Since I'd been mostly using my collection of atlases and Google Maps on my cell phone for navigation I didn't consider this to be too bad, until I picked up a client that regularly had me shooting out in the middle of nowhere. Literally. My cell phone's GPS only needed a signal to create the route, then worked from memory, but a few years back I found myself trying to get home a location with no data signal, and in an area where the roads didn't exist in my atlas. I didn't even have my old eMap with me as I figured the cell's GPSr would be good enough. Fortunately, I'm good enough at navigating that I was able to work my way to an interstate. Well, I went out and bought my Nuvi that very weekend.

Doug, thanks for the trip down memory lane.

I started at IBM fresh out of the Navy in 1966 as Field Engineer (I repaired h/w). In '69 I went into Program Support supporting DOS (and its products) on things like the 360/30, 40, 50, et al. Life was good. Retired in '96, still working with DOS's successors: DOS/VS, DOS/VSE, VSE/ESA. After I retired I was a Systems Programmer for a bank that was eventually bought out, and then up until a couple of years ago, I still consulted for a company in Canton, Ohio. (Sidebar: The bastards shut down on me still owing me $800. Oh, well). Anyway, if you do the arithmetic, I worked with "DOS" for about 45 years. I guess I got my money's worth.
Another sidebar: I find it interesting and I think that it's a testament to IBM that some programs written in the '60s would still run today unchanged except for the Job Control.

As you now work as a traveling nurse, what about your licensing? Do you find your certifications such as RN are recognized in the other states or are you not allowed the full responsibilities as one certified in the state you are in? Just curiosity on my part.

Illiterate? Write for free help.

Compact License

Being that my original license is in Fla, it is not part, (yet), of the compact , which means, I have to be licensed in every state I want to work in, however, Fla voted, and should be part of the compact, by the end of this year, which means I will be able to work in the states that are part of the "compact", without having to obtain a license for those states..which will leave me open to so many more places to work in, so for the moment, I am only licensed in Me, grin CO, WA,Fl,Vt..but once Fla signs into legislation,I will be able to work in 26 states..sweet!
