Dash? Dash? Where'd my Dash go?

Remember Dash the connected GPS people? Wonder what happened to them?

there were about a hundred companies selling GPS units

According to what I have been reading there were about a hundred companies manufacturing GPS units about a year ago. They expect that by the end of this year that there will only be 3 or 4 left standing with any chance of survival.

If the economy keeps up the way it is currently trending, it will be a lot worse than that. Only it will be more than just GPS companies.

Dash Express

Dash said they'd stop development on their GPS on November 3, and said they'd work on licensing their technology to other companies. They laid off about 65% of their workforce.

It was a good idea that was crippled by their bulky hardware, routing problems, and lack of software features. I believe development expenses were more than the company figured on. Also the unit went on sale 18 months late. If they had come out with a more well rounded product at the start, it may have had a different outcome, but it is hard to compete with the money Garmin and TomTom have available for development.

The Dash Express doesn't seem to be for sale on their website anymore. Strangely enough Amazon is currently selling them for $299.99 after reducing the price to $199.99 in October. I'd think they'd want to clear them out.

I just hope tehy still

I just hope tehy still support it all going forward and tehse new licensing delas expand service. I heard tehy were working with TOM TOM on this so it still maybe viable we'll see
