A couple of nuvi 755T questions.

I purchased a nuvi 755T a few days ago and have some questions about a couple of the features on this device. The first feature is 'lane assist'. I've used the GPS several times through Nashville and have yet to see a 'lane assist' display. I assume it's only applicable while in a route, and I've been navigating a route. What else has to happen to trigger this function? Does it only work in certain geographic areas? If so, what are the areas?
The other feature I haven't been able to get to work is the 'traffic' function. The 755T comes with a lifetime subscription to FM Traffic. Nashville is in both ClearChannel and Navteq coverage areas. I'm using the power cord/FM receiver and I've draped the cord over the passenger visor. The power LED is on. The status LED is amber and flashes sometimes. It never goes green and I've never seen a traffic icon on the GPS display.
I've driven all over Nashville the past several days and haven't received a bit of traffic information. Is this normal if there are is no traffic incidents to report? Or, should the status LED be green and there be a traffic icon even if traffic conditions are good. I've only had the GPS since Wednesday and traffic has been light because of the holiday/weekend.
Once I do get some traffic information, how would I know if it's from ClearChannel or Navteq? Both cover this area, but there are many areas where I travel that are only covered by ClearChannel.
Thanks for any assistance you can offer.

Lane Assist is only available for some junctions ... typically major junctions in/near large metro areas. I see the Lane Assist quite frequently in the NY, Balt, Boston areas, but not much elsewhere.

It took awhile for the traffic to "come on" the first time for me ... I guess by time it receives the FM signal and does its self registration thing. However, goto the Garmin site and confirm that you are in coverage area - it will never work if your not within the coverage zones! Once you are in reception range it will change to green and show a green traffic icon on the screen

The Lifetime Traffic on the Garmin 755 is Navteq ... not ClearChannel - you must be in Navteq coverage areas.

Navteq does have coverage in Nashville.
Touchtone, my 660, when connected to the cigarette-lighter-charger/receiver has a page under Where-To/Traffic that shows whether I have a subscription and the date of expiration. Does the 755T have something similar? I don't know whether the LED is amber because you have poor reception, or whether reception is turned off because the unit doesn't know you have a subscription. I realize it should be automatic for all 755T units with free traffic, but there may be a way for it to get turned off.

nashville traffic

Yes, but many people say they are "in Nashville" when in reality they are out in the suburbs ... one must look at the coverage map to confirm
Additionally, the nuvi/traffic receiver directions state that certain types of windshields can interfer with reception ... something else to consider.
Re: the receiver light ...
flashing yellow : determining your location
solid yellow : searching for signal
red solid : signal loss
green solid : normal traffic reception
If his light is yellow (amber), it would appear that he has weak, or no, signal available
Thanks for all the replies.
Thanks for all the replies. I'm well within the Navteq coverage area. I'll give it a couple of days and see what happens. I went to the diagnostic screen and see where it's scanning for a signal. It also shows it has found 4 stations and under 'subscriptions' it shows NAVTEQ.
Traffic by FM

Those are your satellites which provide location signals and have nothing to do with traffic. The traffic is provided by FM radio signal from a radio tower.

I have the 265wt with the free traffic. As soon as I plugged in the traffic receiver it did not take very long at all for the green icon to show on the gps screen in Central Florida. From my own experience driving down I10 heading for Fort Walton Beach FL in a no coverage area the icon went off the screen and did not re-appear until I got back into a coverage area.
Looking at the Nashville coverage area you should be showing the green icon on your unit.Connect the receiver to the gps and car then touch tools, settings, traffic and see if it is disabled.Make sure is has the check mark.

I was at a different diagnostic screen, not the one showing satellite reception. Here's some links to the screenshots of what I was seeing:

Sorry I jumped to a conclusion. Have you registered the unit? Sometimes Traffic won't start until unit is registered.

I did register the unit, but I was trying to get coverage before I registered it. I think I registered the unit yesterday. That may be the problem. I didn't go out today. I'm heading out tomorrow and will see if it works then. I may go drive around tonight to see if it works.
I seen on another post
I seen on another post somewhere that another user had that problem until he registered the unit.Let us know what happens.

Still having issues........
I registered the GPS on Jan 3rd. Tuesday I was in the coverage area for and hour and never linked up with the traffic signal. Same for last night. The rest of the time I was in East TN and Western NC and there's no traffic coverage there.
Maybe I need to register it again. I guess I could have entered the wrong serial number of something. Does the GTM-20 need to be registered as well? I didn't register it.
No you don't registered the
No you don't registered the traffic receiver.Once you hooked up the receiver to the gps unit and you are in a coverge area there is nothing else to do.
Did you use webupater to get the latest receiver update? It will be found on the second screen of your updates.

I used the updater and it updated the GPS to 2.50. I don't recall seeing a second screen. Is this an update for the GTM-20?
Update for the GTM-20
There was an update for the GTM-20! I've installed that on my 755T and I'll see if that helps the situation. I'll report back here as soon as I find out.
Still not working
I upgraded the firmware in the GTM-20. Its been on for about 2 hours and still hasn't received any traffic information. The status LED will blink from time to time but is solid amber most of the time.
Sounds like there is not a Navteq traffic signal
If you have gone into the setup menu and selected traffic icon and made sure that traffic is turned on then it sounds like there is not a Navteq traffic signal being broadcast in your area. Also reboot the GPS after the traffic receiver has done it's update.

I'm right in the middle of the area. I hadn't rebooted the GPS (power off/power on) since the update to the GTM-20, but did that about 30 minutes ago and still don't have traffic information.
Does Navteq only provide
Does Navteq only provide traffic alerts for expressways? I have never gotten any for major arterial roads in Chicago.

I would call Garmin first thing Friday morning. It appears you have done everything right.Just wondering do you see the green icon on the gps screen when in the coverage area? Did you select a go to in the area or just tuning the unit on and navigating in the area?

I don't see a traffic icon on the GPS screen. I'm mainly looking at the status LED on the GTM-20. It's always amber. I understand it will be green when it has signal. I'm not navigating a route, just driving around the neighborhood.
That green icon is suppose
That green icon is suppose to be on the screen if you are in a coverage area.Should not make any difference but I would try to pick a location in the coverage area on the map and hit go and see what happens. If like you say you are in the coverage area and not getting signal maybe for some reason the service is down or you have a bad receiver.Sounds like Garmin support is going to have to get involved.

It's working now!
I spoke with Garmin today and they had me do a master reset on the GPS. Then they wanted me to take it outside with the GTM-20 connected and see if it would pick up a signal. After 10 minutes or so it did. Now it seems to be working properly.
Thanks for all the replies and suggestions.
