Nuvi 760 4.6 firmware

Has anyone had any problems with the 760 voice stuttering with the new 4.6 firmware upgrade? It was pretty bad yesterday. I didn't have the problem before the upgrade. I applied the upgrade again and it still does it.

Can the previous firmware 4.2 be applied?

Yes I too have had some stuttering. Don't know what the solution is, even went in to webb updater and re-updated the voice that I use but it still does it!!!!!! No stuttering

No stuttering noticed since I went from 4.20 to 4.60. Didn't have the problem before either. I'm wondering if it can have other causes (corrupted POI file or something like that).

Common problem?

I checked gpspassion forums and several people over there are having problems with the stuttering also. It looks like Garmin broke something with this upgrade.

4.6 Upgrade

Thanks for warning. I haven't done the update yet and I think I'll wait until the next one.

What voice are you using?

What voice file are you using? Have you tried any other voices?

I have not noticed any stuttering using Jill.

No Stuttering problems here....

I haven't notice any stuttering problems.
I use Jack. What voices have you noticed a problem with.
The only problem I have noticed is, one time it locked up while I was trying to look up traffic. After a power cycle it hasn't done it again, at least so far.

no stuttering but...

When trying to use any play sound function in Language Guide I get "Unable to Load Language"

More problems

I'm using the Jill voice but I don't think that is the problem. Looks like there are 3 problems now.

The stuttering with the TTS voice.

Unable to load language when trying to use the language guide.

And on a custom POI list if you have a route entered and select "near" the first column with the names doesn't scroll, just the milage and direction does.

I have all 3 issues. I can live with the language problem but not the other two.

It seems others have the same issues. I'm thinking about backing up up my user data and going back to 4.2 if the fix isn't release soon.

What does this firmware fix or add?

I have a Nuvi 760 updated to 4.6. I tried using the Jill voice, added a route and then tried scrolling down a custom POI using "NEAR".

I did not experience any of your problems.

Did you try re-downloading and installing the American English Text and TTS voices when you downloaded 4.6 upgrade? I will usually do this if it needs it or not any time the OS is upgraded. I know from experience that subtle errors can arise during an installation. This way everything gets loaded in the sequence and address locations that they are intended to operate from.

The speech problem was giving me problems again today so I went back and installed 4.2 and it fixed the language thing and I drove around for a hour today and no stuttering. I will be driving more tomorrow so it will get a good workout. The scrolling problem with custom POI and using the "near" while having route entered still exists. I wonder if I had that problem in 4.2 before. I never went thru all the options like I did with 4.6 since I never had the speech problem.

No problems with my 760

No stuttering, and no problem with POI list scrolling, even when using Near first and picking a city in between start and destination.

Try this

johnc wrote:

You need to select "my current route" for the scrolling to act up. Try this.

After selecting your "Where to" destination and its finished calculating. Select

"Where to"
"Near"
"My current route"

Then select custom POI and select a database with a few poi's that will be on that route that have different names and where you would have to scroll to see all of them. When you scroll the names don't scroll but the mileage and direction does. At least on mine.

If you select something different besides "My current route" it works ok.

Oh, there it is...

OK - there it is. And only when you select "on my current route". How odd! What's even odder is that with my GPX POI files, it shows both the name and the first line of the address in the list. When I scroll, the address scrolls but the names do not.

Try this.........

Hmm!

Tools/Language Guide/ Words and Phrases/words.........

Select the first word on the list.. "abandon"
select language and then select from American English to European Spanish or some other language. (Some languages don't give you the option to hear) Hit back then press the speaker next to the other language.
I get an hour glass for a few moments then "Unable to load language"

(Edit) Just noticed that if I select the speaker for American English first, it will pronounce the word. If I then select the speaker for the other language, I get the "Unable to load language." Then if I select the speaker for American English, again, I get the
"Unable to load language", even though it worked if selected first.
Hmm, go figure....

Yes, that scrolling bug is back, but no stuttering

I was able to reproduce the custom POIs near my route issue in 4.6, and I know that it had been fixed in 4.2, so the bug has been resurrected.

However, I don't have any TTS voice stuttering problem at all.

I also experienced an issue with routes functionality, where segments of the route created before the upgrade were "off road" all of a sudden. No big deal, as recalculating and saving the route fixed it, it appears it was a route conversion issue with the upgrade.

Satellites seem to lock-in quicker and more sensitive than it was before, so the net result for me is very positive with 4.6, but I still think that it is shameful that a fix doesn't carry on to the next release - Not impressed!

The POI and language problem , but no stuttering problems for me, at least so far.

.

I did notice a stutter a few times on my last trip. To me, the 750 I bought from Costco recently seems really bad. It's slow, very slow to boot up, routes badly at times compared to the 350 with the same setting and the screen is dim. I like the ones from early 2008 better.

Why does it seem like there are so many problems with the 700 series? Is the 200 series any better? We have a 350 an it just works. I just don't like the flip-up antenna.

Route POI issue in 4.2

LSchwabe wrote:

Now the strange thing is it does it to me on 4.2 I downgraded back to 4.2 after the stuttering problem in 4.6 got to be pretty bad. I didn't test this issue out when I was in on 4.2 before. So I can't confirm if this issue was carried back with me to 4.2 from 4.6

POI scrolling issue

I am actually not sure what version fixed it or resurrected it, I know I had reported it at 3.0 and the next version I think is the one that fixed it, but from there on I did not keep on checking whether the fix prevailed, so it is quite possible that it was back in 4.2, or even before.

Stutter

My new Nuvi 780 stutters so bad you can't make out what it's saying half the time.

Could it be that 4.6 works different for 760 and 780?

Otherwise I can't explain why some people (like me) have no stuttering problem at all, where others do.

Is this consistent that 780s are the ones with the stuttering? if not, then there has to be another factor that is making a difference.

I may have fixed my stuttering problem as I had an older version of Jack that I had modified with TTSVoiceEditor. I ran webudater and showed that there was an update to Jack so I downloaded it and the stuttering has stopped (for now).

Scrolling Issue with Custom POI files and 4.6 on my Nuvi 750

Those who are having the scrolling problem - does it happen with Custom POI files that just have single line entires or does happen just with Custom POI files that have multiple line entires?

I have some POI files that I have downloaded from this site that are just made up of single line entires like this:

-94.74240,38.81952,Heritage Park,Perfect site for a picnic

and they seem to scroll correctly.

However, I have some that I have downloaded - and some that I have created myself - that have multiline entries for each location like this:

-94.76416,38.81227,Garmin,"1200 E. 151st Street
Olathe,KS 66062
913/397.8300"

that all have the scrolling problem.

For those who have the other problems but say you don't have the scrolling problem - have you tried this on any multi-line files?

Steve

I Upgraded to 4.6 and haven't had problems with the voice stuttering. My ongoing problem with the voice is that while it speaks, the map on my Nuvi 760 gps stops moving then resumes after the voice finishes speaking. I hope there a fix in the software for this in the future.
