New York News

Just thought I would give everyone a heads up on what is happening right now in New York. Looks like I am going to have a big job ahead of me if this actually comes to pass.

NYC Red Light issue

Well, since I am from NYC, I will have to keep my eyes open for them so that I can pass them to this site. I have noticed that they have been putting up more of them.. In fact they are putting up some dummy ones too. There is one in the bronx that is not working but looks like it is.

There's already a number of them on the Westside Highway. In the early morning it's quite a light show to see all the strobes going off. Most of the stop lights are so close together that in early morning traffic (5am), it's common for cars to blow through a few of them.

I'm looking forward to trying out the red light poi with my Nuvi 350 when it arrives. I'm sure a lot of the New Yorkers will send the updates when the new cameras go up.

Quick Light

Anyone driving eastbound on Eastern Pkwy & Utica Ave, Brooklyn beware the light turns red real quick

Would anyone be intrested in a poi of nyc and if so, what would they like.. I am looking to try my hand in creating a poi but not sure what to create. any Ideas?!

I grew up about 80 miles south of you, enlisted in the military and settled in Texas. I'll be driving back that way at the end of May for my neice's wedding. My son and daughter-in-law want to see NYC. I used google earth and plotted several "tourist" spots. Ellis Island, Statue of Liberty, Ground Zero, Empire State Bldg, Times Square, Greenwich Village, Wall Street, UN Bldg, Little Italy, Central Park and a couple of the bridges. I think anything that you think would be interesting would make a good POI file. It's your creation, you could perhaps add museums, art galleries, Broadway, and any advice or locations where someone might be able to park. That might be the Best one of all.

akirby37 is working on a historical set of poi for Philadelphia. Also some pizza locations, I already have the cheessteak poi. I hope I have enough time to check out Philly and NYC with the kids, it's been a long time since I've been back there.

I think I saw a post recently requesting bike trails/paths in the NY area. Maybe this would be a good place to start.

I've had enough of the "cities". I'll enjoy my place where I can see Long Horn Steer and Buffalo behind my back fence.

So, chop chop on those interesting places and parking spots!!! LoL

I think red light cameras

I think red light cameras are okay in general, but what I hate are the cameras that are rigged to the split second yellow lights. Those are strictly for profit.

Agree! But Speed Camera is a

Agree!

But Speed Camera is a differenct story. Who is driving at speed limt these days?

Be careful at NYC, it's beyond the reach of common law. You are guilty if charged.

I noticed when they install

I noticed when they install the red light cameras, the lights change much faster. What a scam!

I got busted by one of those

I got busted by one of those in Brooklyn last year. If I would have stopped I woud have caused an accident probably. Oh well, 50 bucks and no points. Not too bad I guess. Nice picture of the back of my car too, lol! I would have had to pay someone more than 50 bucks to get a picture of my rear end, wink.

one hundred NYC red-Light cameras in use at any given time

RE: http://www.transalt.org/newsroom/media/2115

Dear Miss POI,

I just came across the above-referenced article from last February. It indicates that only one hundred of the red-light cameras in New York City are operating at any given time. The rest flash but do not send a ticket. A friend of mine who is chief of staff to a state legislator told me that this is in compliance with a limit set by state law.

Yup, I have known this for a long time. I have no interest in trying to keep track each week of which ones are active and which ones aren't. That is enough to make anyone's head spin.

Miss POI

I hope I did not imply that.

Dear Miss POI,

I certainly had no intention of implying anyone would ever consider that kind of project. I have no idea how one would find it out if one desired the information.

The article had just represented a new bit of information that I had not possessed. I have asked my friend to let me know if the City requests any changes from the State.

Enjoy! At my $50.00 expense...

Here is a scan of the Red LIght Ticked I opened today.
July 4th, Date of alleged offense.
July 24th, date they sent notice.
July 30th, date I received notice of alleged offense.

The funny thing is that the car on the left is a friend of mine that called me immediately after and stated the obvious to me.
Those Flashes can not be missed by a blind man!
