What they call 2009 maps came out about April 2008. So you are likely looking for 2010 maps in 2009.
I heard that Garmin was going to have a fee for lifetime quarterly map updates, but that has been delayed (from October) and I have not heard more about it yet. There might be some confusion between that and lifetime traffic updates.
If you go to Garmin's website and either navigate to your GPS or (if you've established an account and registered your unit) click on "My Garmin" you'll find a "Map" or "Mapping Software" link. Click it and you'll be shown exactly what product you need for your model including the latest version. If you're in "My Garmin" you'll be given an opportunity to update your maps. Depending how long you've had the unit (since it first established contact with satellites) you might be sent the latest software free. There are plenty of threads on the subject on the POI-Factory site.

The updated Maps CD in my local WalMart have a 2008 Garmin Map updates on the front cover???

The current version is version 2009. It just be aware that it's a DVD not a CD.
