unread posts and skip

Hi. I don't know how much flexibility POI Factory has with the forum software, or even what forum software is being used, but I would like to suggest a small enhancement that I think a lot of users would appreciate, I know I certainly would.

The forum software has a feature that shows "unread posts". It's handy and I use it to keep up with what may have been posted since I last looked, both threads I've been following and new threads. There is a little link marked "skip" in each thread, if you click it that thread vanishes from your list of unread posts.

However, as soon as something is added to a thread that I "skip", it's back in my unread list again. It would seem much handier if I skip a thread without reading it that the thread would stay skipped. After all, if I've hit skip and ignored a thread based on the subject line without reading perhaps a half dozen posts in that subject, what are the chances that I'll suddenly develop an interest in the subject just because someone else posted in the thread? If I'm hurting for something to read I can always scan the full forum lists, but it sure would be handy if the forum remembered the threads that I want to skip and they would stay skipped. It's tracking lots of other stuff about what I have read and have not read to build the "unread posts" custom link, why not have a thread stay skipped when I express a lack of interest in it? After all, if I just don't want to read it at the moment I can just choose to not follow the link. Skip doesn't accomplish much in the short term and currently doesn't do much of anything long term.

unread posts and skip

Have you went into your account and selected the item you don't want to read. It will block other things you are not intereseted in. example if you are not a tom tom person you can block threads about tom tom's/

unread posts and skip

My mistake it is at the bottom of this forum of unread posts. In forum preferences.

where? , but skip seems an ideal way

I've just relooked at my account settings, but can't find anywhere to do this. Please be specific.

Still, while it might make sense to be able in my account to block the Magellan forum (which is what I think you are saying that I can do), lets assume that since I'm a Garmin user I don't want to block the Garmin forum or the General forum. But if I see a discussion about, for example, Bluetooth, and I don't use a GPS with Bluetooth and don't even own or want a cellphone, I should be able to permanently skip it somehow. Skip only skips it until a new post is made to that thread, and just ignoring the thread seems to do about the same thing (or opening it in a new tab and then closing the tab does exactly the same thing). If skip had memory then the list of unread topics could be quickly cleaned up to only the topics one had interest in. Topics of no interest could be flagged once and not seen again. I really can't see a reason to have skip at all if it's not going to work this way.

Skip posts

It is at the top of the unread file before you start reading then or after you have read or skipped all of the threads in the unread file you will see it at the bottom of the page above the line where it shows home/top of page /unread posts. You can't stop all post but you can stop a lot of the ones your not interested in I don't think the system is set up to do anymore. Miss Poi or Jon may know of something else.
