Does anyone know what the available memory is on the 255w? Is there a way to access this on the unit?

Plug it into the computer and look under My Computer -- it will tell you how much free memory you have. You can use the space for pictures, music, POI's . . .
Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
Mine shows 625MB available
Mine shows 625MB available of 1.85GB total capacity. I have a few custom POIs and fevourites but not many.
I used Windows explorer to see the available memory. I don't know if this can be seen on the GPS itself, since it does not seem to have a built in file manager.

you can get more memory if
you can get more memory if you need to by deleting voice and text files you dont need,i did and ended up with about 80 mb more space.just make sure you back up you files first before you do that so if you want them back you can get them back

IMHO: At prices of less than 10 buck for a 4GB flash card (e.g., newegg.com), this is hardly worth the effort.
