poi on sd card

i know you can put pois on a sd card i did it and i was wondering to add more will it add only the new ones or will it erase the ones that are on there and only install the new ones i hope this makes sense,i think when you put them to the unit it erase the ones that are already on there before it installs the new ones, thanks

What I do is...

put all POIs in a folder structure (only one deep) and run POI loader. This way, all POIs are reloaded each time.

A second approach used by some is to load one POI at a time and rename the POI file on the GPS unit.

Garmin POIloader will overwrite the file poi.gpi. I usually load one file at time them change poi.gpi to newname.gpi (e.g. RestStop.gpi). This allows me to replace only updated gpi files.

If your loading multiple files you will need to reload all your poi files if only one file update needed.

i will try that ,thanks

i will try that ,thanks

So you can have multiple gpi

So you can have multiple gpi files in the POI folder. Does this work on all garmin GPS or just certain models, I have a nuvi 205 and would much rather have seperate files then all in one.

I will have to test when I get home.

Files

See this node http://www.poi-factory.com/node/15804 I typed out a step by step for creating sub folders for custom pois. This will give you the separate files.

When you use the poiloader you will either have a csv or gpx file on your computer.Poiloader converts it to a gpi file on your gps unit. This is the method for Garmin models.

If you want the best of all worlds -- not having to reload and set alerts for all files just because one is being updated, and not having to rename files, check out: http://www.poi-factory.com/node/17095 near the end of the thread.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.
