Nuvi 200w

Hi all. First post in this forum. I own a nuvi 205w, and I just purchased a Nuvi 200W for $119 (black friday) as a gift for my father. To my surprise, it has the newer looking interface, and 2GB of memory, just like my 205w. I ran Garmin's webupdater and installed software ver. 4.60, just like my 205W. My friends 200w only has 1Gb of memory and can only run software ver 4.0.

Did anyone else know that the 200w had this revision? As far as I can tell it is basically a 205w in a 200w's shell.

inventory reduction

Garmin has in fact started re-badging the 205 and 205w as 200's and 200w's. They have WAY too many units and this is likely their way of reducing their inventory/hardware/parts for manufacture without actually discontinuing the 200 series.

EDIT:
Another reason they may be doing this is that the 1GB of internal memory on the original nuvi 200 is barely enough to hold the "Lower 48 States" 2009 mapset. On my last map update (2009) for my original 200, I had to delete all unused voices/text/help files from the unit to get the updated mapset to fit. I'm expecting the next map update to not fit at all since they increase in size with every update. This may be the easiest way for Garmin to alleviate this problem as the 2x5 hardware has 2GB memory.

Hi,I also bought the Garmin

Hi,

I also bought the Garmin Nuvi 200w on black friday for $119 from Target. So far it works great, it also has that new look and it came with the City Navigator North America NT 2009.

I got a question about this Nuvi 200w GPS, I'm wondering if you may have the same problem on yours.

On the world clock, when I tried to change it to a different city, it won't recognize when I try to type in any city that is outside of the US. I highlighted the city, and spell the city name such as Tokyo it says "No Matches Found". Anyone having the same problem?

Originally, the world clock has Tokyo, London and New York on it, but I was messing around and change it to a different US cities, now I wanted to go go back and select a city outside of the US such as Tokyo and London and it could not.

I also updated this GPS with the latest firmware 4.60 using the webupdater but that doesn't solve the problem.

Thanks

Inventory

Thanks for the reply. My buddy had to do the voice/text/help delete trick for his as well. That (more memory) was the main reason I purchased a 205w for myself. I wish I had known all of this before hand. I would have bought another 200w instead!

World Clock

Mav293,

My 200W will not let you search for a city outside the US. Maybe it is b/c this unit is geared towards the lower-48 only? Just a guess.

Brad

I wonder if the 250w has the

I wonder if the 250w has the same internal memory as the 200w? I have the 08 map and will probably update when 10 comes out.

I wonder

You can check the size of your memory by pluggin up your GPS to your computer. Check the size of the GARMIN drive that will show up under My Computer.

250W has 2GB memory

The 250W has 2GB of memory since it's mapset contains the entire US/Alaska/Hawaii/Puerto Rico along with Canada. This mapset will not fit in a 1GB unit.

my 200w also has 2GB.I

my 200w also has 2GB.

I still own the GPSMap 76 and it only has 8MB internal memory without any capability for upgrading internal memory or has the capability of using external memory card.

I live in Houston and the map of Houston alone(Metroguide North America V8) will not even fit in the 8MB memory

I'm glad to get the 200w now I have all the memory to store the maps plus the capability of using external memory cards
