Outdated POIs - how old is old?

I bought my nuvi650 last XMas (2007) and was a little disappointed to learn there were 3+ year old POIs in my brand new toy that had not been in business in over 3 years. At the time I figured it must need an update. I quickly learned that in December 2007 there were no updates available for the n650.
Here I am a year later and I finally broke down and paid $70 for the update. I downloaded the 2GB file, installed the update, and of course looked for the outdated POIs I recall from last year.

Well, I am sad to report, they are still there. Very disappointing!

So, before I get too worked up over this, is it reasonable to expect that POIs that have been closed for 4+ years should not be in the list? Does the update not take care of things like this? Is 4 years not considered "old"? I did notice new POIs in the update, but it seemed to fail to address old ones.

Sincerely,

M

Updates

I agree, I believe if garmin and the rest of the GPS company's plan to keep up they are going to have to get a lot closer to real time updates. My cell phone is a tedious to use on the road, but at least it can download updates daily.

not good

Yes Garmin should update their POIs. I just bought my garmin/head unit this Sept and haven't looked through all of the POIs, but I hope that I don't have ones from 3 years ago.

Outdated POIs

Garmin doesn't do POIs. The database is bought from an independent source. The same company may supply Magellan, Tom Tom, and Delorme.

Using the form on the Garmin or NavTeq web site, you can report the errors, but there is no guarantee that the will be included in the next map update.

POI-Factory

That's one of the reasons why Miss POI & JM started this website - timely and accurate POIs. smile
