Downsizing POI Files

As my C340 is filling up with Custom POI's I am downsizing my larger files.
Files like red light cameras, rest areas, interstate exits and zip codes are too large to include the whole nation.
I save the file in excel, sort by latitude, longitude and then delete locations that I will not be using. This cuts the file sizes by 75% in most cases. I am a west coaster.
I do save the original complete file in case I need to use it.

would it be easier

Would it be easier to use a memory card to allow more memory or doesn't your unit support memory cards?

The old c3xx series only reads pois from the hard drive. You can load between 18,000 to 23,500 pois if you are careful. Make sure to not load mp3 files as they just use up space. The other tricks are csv files only and few bmps.

I do a similar thing !

I actually have 3 separate POI file folders.
One for
1.East Coast travels - sorted via Excel/Works - for longitude East of 85 deg.
2. Southern Travels -South of 40 deg latitude
3. X-country travels - All

I also delete info in files that I do not use - mainly ZIP codes, Telephone numbers and duplicate city listings within a location listing.

The smaller files allow me to put in more POI's in my C330 and C340.
I also just use .csv files !

Or use POI Verifier II to easily create POI files via state.

I also have a c340 and the discussion on adding more info to column 3 is a no win for users who can't add pois to sd card.Sooner then later I plan to get a unit with more storage.
