What probably happened is that you loaded them to the SD card and then when the unit asked you if you wanted to IMPORT them, you selected "Yes" which creates a copy on the unit itself.

With the unit connect to the computer with the USB cable, look for a file named POI.GPI. Delete this file.

To prevent this in the future, don't import them to the unit. Select "Yes" then select "Skip this File" (or something similar) and you won't get prompted in the future for that file.

Duplicate poi

Go back to the files on your computer and delete the duplicate custom poi. Then run poiloader again and it will overwrite the existing files.

smile Hi!

Thought there for a moment you were the Bob Sislow I knew and dated from the U of I back in the 70's. When I looked up your profile I figured out you couldn't be. Are you the Bob that worked or works for the Trib? My major was Journalism and always dreamed of working there. Worked on the paper at Eastern University. Let me hear back from you.

Removes all POI's

So, this will remove all custom POI's and then you just need to re-import them? Thanks.

Remove POI's

All custom POI's are stored on the GPS (main unit or SD card) in a file called poi.gpi as MM has already indicated.

Each time you run the POI Loader program from your PC to load POI files, the previous poi.gpi is totally overwritten. Its done in one step.

So, yes, once you have the individual POI files correct on your PC with no duplicates and you run POI Loader, all previous POIs loaded on the GPS will be overwritten.

.

Just like Gary said, but it only overwrites the file on the unit OR the card, as you direct it. If you previously loaded the same file(s) to BOTH the unit and the card, you can manually delete the POI.gpi file on either the unit or the card (they show up as separate drives) as you wish.

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

good tip

I was having similar trouble. Good thing you guys are on top of things.

So, let me see if I have this

So, let me see if I have this right; I have mistakenly downloaded far too many POIs so to delete all of them, I remove (all or some of) the csv POI files from the main file on my computer, run the POI downloader again and they'll all be deleted?

Thanks, Tom

Correct

Every time you run POILoader it writes a new POI.GPI file to the unit.

Every time you run POILoader it writes a new POI.GPI file to the unit.

It also gives you the option to Delete All POIs.

Got it and did it! Thanks,
