How do I know the 750 is actually accessing the SD card?

I orginally loaded all my POI's directly in the Nuvi 750. I just got a SD card and loaded them on the card.
My question is: When the 750 detects a card installed, how do you know that is is actually accessing the card. My computer shows the card as an additional "j" drive. I did remove everything out of the 750 itself. My second question is even worse than my first one. When I access POI's it gives me local ones (that I did not load). I guess the 750 found these. The POI's that I saved on the card from (out of state). How do I access them? Sorry all. I am VERY new at this.

SD Card

To find custom POI's, Press [Where To], [Extras], [Custom POIs]. Remember these work differently from the pre-loaded POIs

To see if they loaded on the SD card, Your J drive should have a Garmin subdirectory. Inside that should be a POI subdirectory. Inside that should be a poi.gpi file.

Hope this helps.

When I hit Extras the next

When I hit Extras the next thing that showed was a heading labeled,"Historic Route 66 MasMaps". There is no Custom POIs. Drive j does not appear. I am looking for it but I do not see it....yet.

I see no mention in your posts that you ever loaded POIs via POI Loader to the card. You were evidently confusing the built-in POIs with the custom POIs and because you saw them, you assumed they were on the card. An easy test would be to pull out the card and convince yourself that since they are still showing, they are not on the card.

You need to reload the POIs and direct them the the card, not the unit. When you are done, and turn on the unit, it will ask if you want to transfer them to the unit and you will say "No" if there is a checkbox saying "Don't ask me again." If you are not given that checkbox, you should choose "Yes" and you will then be asked again with the checkbox -- this time, you check the box and say "No." At this point, you should see the Custom POIs option under Extras.

Bentbiker, I did fail to

Bentbiker,
I did fail to mention I initially used the POI loader. Before I received your last reply I reformatted the card...just to be sure in FAT 32, and reloaded a few POI's to the card (drive j). When I turned the unit on...with the card installed, it did not ask it I wanted to transfer them. I am doing something wrong but I have no idea what.

1.) Did you RELOAD using POI Loader? Are the POI files from this site?
2.) At the conclusion of loading with POI Loader did it advise that xxx POIs had been successfully loaded?

costco: $200 Garmin 750

I see that Costco online is offering the Garmin 750 for $200. This seems like a great deal! How different is the 750 from a 760?
