NEW POI'S HELP

confused Hello:

I need your help to make my new POI'S work on my Nuvi 680:

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, but I downloaded 3 files and I don't see them working yet.

This is what I do:

1.- I created a "new poi foler" on my desktop
2.- Open POI Factory and downloaded for example (Starbucks Coffee - US)file and press "save to my poi folder" wich I created in my desktop
3.- Run POI loader and select to search for the files in my POI folder at my desktop
4.- POI loader loads the files to my Nuvi
5.- the new POI don't work

I need to know if I'm missing any step, I'm asuming that I will get any sound alert or at least visual from my Nuvi but neither one of the two, it is like the new file don't even exist at all in my gps...or perhaps I"m expecting too much from the POI loader???

I really need your help, I been searching the data base for some kind of hint but I just cannot make it work.

Thanks a lot: FRGG razz razz razz

What do you mean by "the new POI don't work"?

Do you mean that you don't see them or that they don't alert?

The Custom POIs that you load can be found on the unit by going to Where to? > Extras > Custom POIs.

Regular Custom POIs do not alert by default. You must SET an alert if you want to be alerted.

You can run POI Loader in Manual Mode and set whatever alerts you want. Or you can put some alert information in the files themselves.

If you run POI Loader in Manual Mode instead of Express Mode, you can set whatever alerts you wish.

Check out Phil's great guide for more information about alerts.

Also, be aware that alerts will only sound if you are on the road on which the POI is located, traveling in the direction of the POI, and if the POI is located sufficiently close to the road (typically 50 feet).

What do you mean by "the new POI don't work"?

Thanks Mama:

let me try your advice and I will post the results

Thanks a lot

2.- Open POI Factory and downloaded for example (Starbucks Coffee - US)file

Also need to have icon file and sound file named exactly same as POI file

Example
Starbucks Coffee.csv
Starbucks Coffee.bmp
Starbucks Coffee.mp3

If only downloading one POI file at a time rename poi file on Garmin drive. Go to Garmin\POI find poi.gpi, rename file to Starbucks Coffee.gpi

If downloading multiple poi files do not change poi.gpi file name.

Thanks phillyguy19020

I enter one file at the time and I got the feeling that it is going to work just fine, let me ask you... since I changed the name of the poi.gpi file to the respective name I want (ex: Starbucks.gpi) how do I know that after running POI loader goes to the new renamed file.

Thanks a lot in advance

Not sure I understand the question, but POI Loader always stores all the POIs in the source folder (and subfolders) in a file named POI.gpi. It won't overwrite a file named anything else. Nor, will it ever append information to any existing file.

There is an alternative to renaming the POI.gpi files and that is explained by ScrugneysGundogs in http://www.poi-factory.com/node/17095 . Best of all worlds. Update single POI files without reloading everything or having to rename the files.

Thank you bentbiker

I think I got it...thanks a lot

NEW POI'S HELP CONT..

Just a question:

If I'm downloading a file (POI) how do I know if there are any proximity alerts in the file already, so when I use POI Loader I can decide to use "express mode" or "manual" to asign the alerts myself or not to mess with the existing alerts if any???

I just try and can not make it work yet, I downloaded:

1.-Starbucks-----------working ok
2.-Texas speed trap----not working "yet"
3.-Costco--------------I don't know yet
4.-Rest areas----------I don't know yet

Any help would be very welcome.

Thanks: FRGG

When you run POI Loader in Manual Mode, it will show you which files have proximity or speed alerts. If you like what is already there, you just press the next button to accept that setting or go on to the next. If a file doesn't have alerts and you want to be alerted (for example the rest areas), then you can type the information in the screen in POI Loader when that file comes up.

ONCE AGAIN...THANKS A LOT
