Not sure but I have a 650 and it does not show the speed. It is not built into the programing for the unit.

Did you try touching the estimated arrival time? That brings up the dashboard on mine.

On 650, if you touch on the estimated arrival time, it should show info such as your speed, your moving time, your stop time...
Open Architecture
The advantage of having a GPS with Open Architecture is that you can make those changes with a quick patch to the code (hack). The Nav Gps and Navigons have a Windows OS and you load the navigation program to it which you have altered . Garmin does not allow this or I haven't seen a software hack for speed displays around.

when not navigating?
I think on the 660, when you are not navigating, the mph will show where the estimated arrival time would show when you're navigating....I don't have a problem pressing the estimated time to get the mph, avg times and speeds. Seems like a lot of info is gained by the one press.
