Anyone using DeLorme Products

I have been a Delorme software and hardware user for over 5 years. I have found a way to search in Street Atlas POI's, and create a spreadsheet with the results. It still takes a lot of editing to create a POI database, but it is a ton faster than any other way I have found yet. Anyone else using Delorme with any sucess?

DeLorme

I've been using their products since the mid 90's. My first was Map 'n Go, and since then I've had nearly all of their consumer products including the USB GPS unit for my laptop. Only recently did I realize that I could configure Street Atlas (and I presume the other programs as well) to display "decimal degrees" instead of degrees, minutes and seconds. Using Street Atlas for coordinates and notepad for a text editor makes creating .csv files very easy.

DeLorme

I have discovered that feature as well, very handy. Though the GPS Visualizer is a pretty bitchin' conversion tool. I don't have SA 2007 on my machine yet, and I find the POI search from map center in SA 2006 fairly innaccurate.

I have copied the search results straight into excel, and then a couple of MOD formulas makes elimating the unneeded info fairly easy

Delorme question

Trying to set up some custome POIs using SA9 but am having trouble setting SA9 to display "decimal degrees" instead of minutes any help would be appreciated
Gary

Settings

Find the settings or display settings. In SA 2006, it is under the icon in the top right of the screen. It looks like two check marked boxes. In SA 2005 it is under "Map Display" then "Units"

Look at the Readme.txt in

Look at the Readme.txt in the same folder as the SA9 executable:.....

Status Bar Lat/Lon Position Formats
-----------------------------------
Street Atlas USA 9.0 is capable of displaying the status bar latitude and longitude in a variety of different formats. To change the format you must be familiar with editing application ini files. Change the latlon= key in the [main] section of the sa9.ini file, located in the windows directory, to one of the following formats:

N1111
N1111.1111
N11.1111
N11
N11 11
N11 11 11
N11
N11 11 11.11

Example:
[main]
latlon=N11 11 11.11

Type spaces where you expect degree or minute symbols in the status bar display. The N directional indicator can be placed at the beginning or end of the format string. If you omit the directional indicator, the default is plus/minus. To return to the default status bar display you can delete the latlon= key. If you do not find the latlon= key in the [main] section, you can add it.

decimal degrees

I am rather new both at this site and working with Delorme. I am having issues with importing .cvs files into the xdata overlay. You mention (decimal degrees) do the cvs files need to be edited before they can be entered? Any help would be appreciated the degrees I see staret with a w12.222 but the cvs files are -12.222. I am confused. Thanks Jomo4
It appears I jumped the gun a bit I’ll read more I am using SA 2008 plus

DeLorme cvs

I just found this site the other day and am simply amazed. The work you have done for the VA data is awesome! Now as I am also new to Delorme can you provide some pointers on importing cvs files? Thanks

File format or file example

I would like to add the Delorme format to Extra_POI_Editor to provide an easy way to edit and convert Delorme .an1 files.

Any information on the subject is relevant. For example:

- the .an1 file format
- a .an1 file example may be sufficient if the format is simple
- its .csv or .gpx equivalent

I am pretty sure this can be done easily.

Thanks.

GPX usage in Delorme Street Atlas 2011

I run both SA 2011 and S&T 2010 simultaneously. S&T makes it easy to import huge size .CSV files, such as those available at this POI-factory site, and then to export them as .GPX files. SA 2011 easily imports the .GPX files so created by S&T. SA 2011 refuses to import large .CSV files. SA 2011 automatically saves the .QPX files it imports as .AN1 if you like, but it's not necessary. SA 2011 imports .GPX files easily. In my case, I see no advantage to manipulating .AN1 files.

have multiple delorme maps
