wav files for nuvi 260

I tried creating a wav file using PCM, 44.100 kHZ., 16 bit, Mono and used the same name as the csv and bmp files just had the wav file extension different and I could not get it to play on my Nuvi 260. Is there something else (i.e. proximity settings) that has to be included?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

?

Did you place the correct version of Sox in the directory with POI Loader and then use ver 2.5.2 of POI Loader to load? You must set an alert in manual mode of POI loader if you want to be alerted (unless it's one of the special files with a keyword in the name).

.

And did you SET an alert when you loaded the Custom POIs?

Sox version important

I had the same problem, and found you have to have the correct Sox version, though I was using the newest POILoader. That worked for me. I tried first with the newest Sox & POILoader and that didn't work.

I have had success with:POI

I have had success with:

POI loader v2.5.2
http://gpsinformation.org/perry/

sox v14.0.1

On a Nuvi 260W using converted MP3 to .wave files and .bmp icons. I have now loaded them into the Nuvi internal memory without a SD card installed. At one time when I tried to erase three speed camera locations in one file, it would not erase them from the internal memory with the SD card installed.

.WAV support has been put back into POI Loader V2.5.2. As well as being undocumented, the change is not complete - Garmin forgot to ship SOX.EXE with it. (POILoader will tell you where it expects to find it.)

Hope this helps.

POI Loader & Sox.exe

I have been using POI Loader 2.5.3 along with sox.exe (don't know the version of sox) in the same directory. Do I have to use POI Loader 2.5.2 instead?

should be fine

POI Loader 2.5.3 should work fine. I just never bothered to upgrade from version 2.5.2 because the changes weren't significant.

Gary,
There have been some reports that 2.5.3 doesn't play well with wav files. I dunno.

Then, I dunno either. I thought the only problems were with versions older than 2.5.2?!? Are there posts here about 2.5.3 that I missed?

I see what you are saying. But, after re-reading the thread, I'm not certain that there is a problem with 2.5.3. I read phrases like "I think there is an issue."

If I get some time later today, I'll download 2.5.3 and try it with my wav files which I know work under version 2.5.2. If there is a problem I can always go back to the previous version.

POI Loader 2.5.3

I just installed POI Loader 2.5.3 (it installed into the C:/Garmin folder without giving me the option to change to a different install folder) on my laptop. I also copied the SOX.EXE file into this folder.

I then loaded all my usual POI files, BMPs and WAV audio alert files. I did a simulation drive past a highway rest area and both the visual alert and WAV file audio alert were triggered just as before when they were loaded with POI Loader 2.5.2.

So, I saw no problem with this new version, loading WAV files with the same version SOX.EXE file, as before.

Hey Gary

Just thought I'd take this opportunity to THANK YOU for all the input you have given on setting up the WAV files for the audio proximity alerts. It took this "more mature" mind (aka OLD) a bit to get it all straight but my "new" Nuvi 260 is working fine for the Audio Proxity Alerts I have set up.
Next on to TourGuides !

Thanks again !

Thanks, Gary, for taking the trouble to test it.

You're Welcome

Bentbiker & MrKenFl - I was meaning to try POI Loader 2.5.3, anyway, so this topic just kind of pushed me into actually doing the test. I'm glad to see the new version works with SOX.EXE and loads the WAV files.

EDIT: Don't talk to me about the Red Sox after last night. sad

nuvi 260 wav files

I want to thank everyone for their input regarding my dilema of not being able to use wav files on my nuvi 260. I finally got everything working thanks to everyone. I am using POI Loader 2.5.3 with SOX.exe version 14.0.1 instead of 14.1.0 and everything worked just fine.
Thanks again for all of your support.
