Garmin POI Loader for Windows, Ver. 2.5.3

Just tried installing this latest version on two systems. Boy, I've never had a software install act like this.

Version 2.5.2 installed in C:\Program Files\Garmin. This version installed in C:\Garmin on one system, and D:\Garmin on the other???? That is a completely differnet partition!

Anyone else notice this? Thanks

It probably based its

It probably based its decision on which partition had the most available space.

If it has a 'custom install' option, you should be able to choose exactly where you want to install it.

Thanks dood! I've installed

Thanks dood!

I've installed this program 4 times in the last day and never saw any prompt for installing in another directory.

Huh...weird.. I just checked

Huh...weird..
I just checked the laptop where I installed 2.5.2.
I have it in C:\apps\GARMINPOILOADER
(I never load appy's into 'program files' for various reasons)

Granted..I loaded it months ago. So I must have found the option to put it where I wanted it. (shrug..)

I have the Garmin Loader

I have the Garmin Loader version 2.5.2. I checked for updates and it said none were found.

Hey dood, I also didn't have

Hey dood,

I also didn't have a problem with v2.5.2, and I also never install a program in C:\Program Files.

This is the latest v2.5.3 and it definitely has something wrong with the install script.

Could be a an 'omission'

Could be a an 'omission' with the install. You know..the ability for the user put things where they want.. (grrrr..)

Regardless.. In my world, 2.5.2 works just fine. Additionally, I use GEEPEEEX, and it has a setting insomuch that its 'aware' of 2.5.2. So I'll stick with it until something more compelling comes along.

I suppose you could simply try moving the directory to where you want it and adjusting your shortcuts accordingly. Its not a 'complicated' program, and even without checking, I wouldnt expect any hard paths in the registry. Heck, you could try it. It can't hurt. If it doesnt work you can always move it back...

Very limited benefit to upgrade to 2.5.3

Small change to upgrade as 2.5.3 follows:

Change History
Changes made from version 2.5.2 to 2.5.3:
Fixed issue with Asian language translated strings being incorrectly truncated.

Not exactly a "must have" upgrade for me. After the 4.0 and 4.1 firmware debacle I'm in no big hurry to do upgrades that I don't need.

From what I can tell, V2.5.3 doesn't introduce any major changes to V2.5.2. The next version of GeePeeEx Editor will not support V2.4.2 or earlier, so all the related options will be removed.

That's what I found. I just let it install and then move it to where I would like.

You have to click the "Arrow with the Yellow dot", in the top-left corner of the initial screen. There's an "About POILoader..." option.
There's also a "Check for Updates..." option - but it doesn't appear to work sad
