Wrong city listed when using address function

On both my 350 and 750 when trying to find an address while typing in the city only one name comes up and it is not the one I want, For example, I want Turnersville but as soon as I type TU, Tuckerton pops up. Any way around this?

Thanks

Wrong city listed when using address function

It says the following on the web:
"Turnersville is a census-designated place and unincorporated area located within Washington Township, in Gloucester County, New Jersey".

Have you tried to do your search with Washington, NJ, instead?

Or you might need to start with a ZIP code instead, at least once to "discover" what the "town" designation really is for that area.

I also had that happen- I

I also had that happen- I found searching for the big town close to the unincorporated town it would find it. For example my son lives in Redlands, Colorado, a sub of Grand Junction, CO. Searched address in Redlands and could not find it, then used Grand Junction and no problem. Hope this helps.

place names in NJ

I'm surprised that only Tuckerton appeared. From my experience, every city, town, village, and place name appears, whether it's incorporated or not, or even if the place name is not in common use. Have you tried using Blackwood, Sicklerville, or Williamstown? These are the main postal names in the Turnersville vicinity.

In NJ, the correct address would normally have the postal place name, not the township, unless the postal name happens to be named after the township (not in this case). If I saw an address that was in Washington, NJ, I would assume it's in Warren County, where the Borough of Washington (and the postal name Washington, NJ) is located. Township names can be duplicated, as there are multiple Washington Twp, Union Twp, and Franklin Twp, but there are only one Washington, NJ (Warren County), Union, NJ (Union County), and Franklin, NJ (Sussex County) for address purposes.

in a similar vein, I put in a city and an address but Nuvi could not find it. It turns out that the address was listed in another city/town. Is there anyway to put in an address without knowing the

On the bottom of the screen where the city appears, just select "seach all".

Thanks to all for your comments.

clem530...... I looked up a company in the phone book. It listed the town but no zip code. Also, there was no zip code for that town in the back of the book.

dconsolla....... This has happened several times. Could you or someone else punch in New Jersey and Turnersville and see what you get. If I was not from this area, I would not know postal areas in the area. I had a similar problem in Virginia and never did find what I was looking for.

Thanks again to all.

city names adopted to boost real estate values

Around here (suburban MD), places change the city names in an attempt to boost real estate values, or make you feel like you're in a better place?

North Potomac (Gaithersburg)
North Bethesda (Rockville)

I've had to use the search all frequently, or go to Google maps to see where things fall.

Wrong city listed when using address function

Hi RTCharlie,

Here is how I found an address in Turnersville, NJ, on my GPS.

I looked for a name and address in the white pages for Turnerville, NJ, on the web.

Then I had to select the town of "Washington TWP" in my GPS, I entered the number and the street name and everything worked fine.

So, for Turnersville, you have to use Washington TWP (Whashington Township) and everything should be OK.

Take care,
Clem

I know what you mean - when we moved back to the DC area three years ago, my wife and I lived in an apartment in "North Bethesda". There's even a push now to call this area "NoBe" (a la "SoHo"). We now live in Germantown (20874), but hope someday to move down the road to Darnestown (also 20874).

Try this...

As mentioned earlier, Select Address - State - then instead of "Spell City" use "Search All", then key in the address and see what comes up. You can even check the map view to verify that you have the right address.

I have found

In Kansas, you will most often not find any unincorporated areas in the map database. One example was Fort Dodge. They have their own post office, but it is now just a military retirement area - and not on the maps.
