Adding a POI update.

How (or can) I find the GPS coordinates on a Garmin C550? If I don't have a street address I don't know how to submit any sites to another's POI list.

Mapsource

If you have mapsource, just hook the unit up and hit receive from unit.

Google Maps

Go to Google Maps website and lookup the address you want. Then send it to you unit. There a link after you find the address you want to send the file to whatever unit you owns. Try it and let me know what you think. It has work out very well for me.

Tap the vehicle?

I have no experience with the C550, but on my nüvi 200, you can tap the vehicle of where you currently are and it will show you the current coordinates.

This also works in simulation mode if you are not actually at the spot you want to check.

But as other have pointed out, you can use other online maps to pinpoint a location. I use Google Maps myself.

You can't "see" the coordinates anywhere on the unit, but you can download your favorites to mapsource or GeePeeEx and it will show the coordinates and elevation. By tapping the arrow it will add the location to your favorites.

Unfortunate, but

Unless I've missed something, this only works with business addresses.

Google Maps with TakItWithMe.com works with private addresses...

I use Google Maps along with TakItWithMe.com which will take a google map you create with ANY coordinates you added to the map and will either download directly to your Garmin into its Favorites or will generate a GPX file of (my preference).

I made a POI with about 130

I made a POI with about 130 addresses. I use Google Earth for the kml, and Babel for converting to csv. When I upload using POI loader only about half of the addresses show up. What am I doing wrong?

Last week I purchased my first Mac after my windows machine took a dump. I used to use kml2csv which worked great for windows. Using Babel hasn't produced the results that the other program did. Help!

.

If you are saying that only 52 POIs show up in the menu on your GPS unit, that's the way it works.

For any Custom POI list, the unit will show the 50 locations closest to your current position. The list will change as you move. The rest are there and can be searched by name.

If you want to be able to see more, break them up into two lists. And then reload them.

Or use the "Near" function

You can also use the "Near" function to specify a city first and then it will list the 50 POI's that are closest to that "Near" location.

This won't be any help if all of your POI's are in the same city, though.

Awesome thanks for your

Awesome thanks for your help.

Another idea

I use the SPELL function in a poi list that has the same name, but different cities in the title with more than 50 locations (ok sometimes even when there is less). Lets say my file shows:
ACME - Kansas City
ACME - New York
ACME - London
" - "
And so forth

If I push spell, then put in kan, then only the locations will show in my list that kan is in the title.
