Mapquest, Garmin Communicator, SD cards

Is it just me? I'm I nutz?

I tried to xfer some destinations from mapquest using the latest/greatest garmin communicator to BOTH the nuvi 350 and a 660

350 is running v3.50
660 is running v4.60
Both have SD cards

1) When I SEND TO GPS and tell it to load to the SD card, it creates directory/file called garmin\gpx\mapquest xxx.gpx where xxx is just a random number.

2) Fire up the gps its not in favorites.

3) I coped the mapquest xxx.gpx files over to the nuvi's gamin\gpx\ directory and it appeared to merge the file into CURRENT.GPX and delete the mapquest xxx.gpx files.
They then appreared in favorites.

I would have thought the nuvi would search the dirs and would 'do its duty'. Apparently not.

Now then, sure I suppose I could just tell the G.Com to load it to the nuvi's onboard mem, but I peferer to do my writing to the SD. I like to keep such file activity to a minimum on the unit itself.

So. I'm I just crazy? Or will it ONLY work if you direct the mapquest files to the nuvi's mem rather than the SD? And if thats the case, why offer the SD as option at all when transfering?

Mapquest

I ran into the same situation as you did. Seems like it only works if you download to the unit itself.

.

Yep, that's how it works.

The SD card can't be used for Favorites no matter where they come from.

The SD card can be used for Custom POIs (for most units), MP3s, JPGs, and additional maps.

Just an additional thing

Thanks for the info! (So I'm no nutz..well..maybe.. grin )

Just an additional thing that I noticed...

Mapquest allows you to drag the red 'star' around.
I had hoped this would make for more exact pinpointing of an address when loaded.
Nope. It still routes to where the original location was generated.

I thought this would be better than google maps.
Oh well.

No biggie tho. I still use geepeeex for my custom POI's and that works great for making destinations dead-nuts accurate! grin
