POI updates for Route 66 VRGP430WBC Roadmaster VR3

HI, Does any one know if updates are avail for my unit listed above. I live in Canada and the unit does not show any of the local Wal Marts with-in 150 miles, there are 5. I live in Penticton BC which is in western canada. How would I load a new or add to the existing data base of POI? How can I tell if there is enough memory in the unit to accept additional downloads.?

I am new to this stuff and am not sure if I have a dud here, in this unit...

Has anyone had any experience with this model or brand. I have found out that thier tech support is virtually useless, I called re the above questions and they referred me to a company called cydle.com. I emailed them and hqve not heard back.

Anyway any infi appreciated

Thx

Welcome to the site.
Please don't post the same thing in multiple places.

Have you read the manual?

Do you have the unit plugged into 12V power?

Did you ensure that you didn't cut the camera cable when you installed it?

As to the update question, I couldn't find anything that would indicate that there's any update available for that unit.

GPS/Backupcamera

I bought this 3 days ago...
Have had nothing but problems.

No maps were on it, so downloaded the software and got message that there wasn't enough memory ( ??? sposed to be 2 gigs on it)

Bought a memory card and still got same message.
NOW I'm getting fatal error, illegal operation error when trying to start NAV.

Please Help!!!

.

The manufacturer's website has the following statement in the FAQs.

Can I update or add maps?
The GD-075 comes preloaded with the latest NAVTEQ® versions of Canada Maps. As these are loaded directly onto the unit, there is insufficient room to add maps.

It would seem that the maps should have been preloaded. So perhaps in the attempt to "download the software" an error was created.

Best bet is to contact their customer service.

preloaded maps use all free space, so expansion is not possible without a sd expansion

While your unit is connected to a pc, it will not charge (I would like the design engineer who thought this up to hold their breath underwater for 45 minutes)
- this also prevents any chance of using the recovery disc, since the transfer takes longer than the battery will hold out for

The units interface is not compatible with the newest os version, so only update maps based on directions below

For Solutions (this should work best for you):

step:

1. fully charge your unit

2. make sure you have:

2.1 a sd card (i use a 8gb sdhc with this unit)

2.2 another usb device that supports sd (i.e. digital cam, or a card reader)

2.3 the included recovery cd, and voucher card

2.4 time (seriously)

3. connect your vr3 and use windows connection manager

3.1 in xp, you can simply delete all the files one at a time

3.2 in vista / win 7, you must delete each individual file before deleting the folders

3.3 once all files have been removed from unit, unplug and charge on the side

3.4 connect your secondary device with the sd card inserted and browse the card

note: you need to do the transfer this way due to the poor transfer speed the unit offers

3.4.1 create a folder called pics, video, books, etc (this is for other aps on unit)

3.4.2 browse the cd for a folder memory image, inside select all files / folders and drag to the sd cards root directory.

3.5 wait ~ 30 min

3.6 now take the card and insert it into the unit

-stop- (do not turn on the unit yet)

3.7 install the route 66 update software on your pc

3.8 do not plug in, but turn on the unit

3.8.1 go to settings / gps settings

3.8.2 browse for the application, and select the route 66 app on the sd card

3.8.3 return to main menu and start the application

3.8.4 connect the usb cable

3.9 once your device runs the update check, agree to download pre purchased software and download the same map that you put on the unit (for my case, canada & us (1.7gb file , not the 1.9gb))

3.9.1 now browse the options in the menu bar up top on the application, and find "enter voucher code"

3.9.2 enter voucher code (it might lock up after you hit accept, give it a min and restart the program. It will still accept it)

3.9.3 now that you have unlocked the map, got to the menu again and select "remote control"

note: I do not have my unit handy as I write this so try and follow

4.1 go to extras / maps, or just maps from the gps menu (i forget which, but it will be the one with a list display of installed maps)

4.2 when you select the map a popup with options like activate, sync, etc... will show. scroll to the bottom and select "voucher sync"

If done correctly, you will now have activated the map. You also will have extra space for additional maps and map updates (if you buy a card larger than 2gb (1gb card is worthless for this by the way)). hope this helps....
