new & interesting places for your GPS

POI Factory Two Year Anniversary ?????

If my math is right, next week or the week after will mark the start of our third year. I have been watching Miss POI "member since history" and for the second week in a row she has been a member for 1 year and 50 weeks. In the short time Miss POI and JM started this site, it has grown and grown with CLASS. So, whenever HAPPY ANNIVERSAY.

How About a Contest??

To celebrate the upcoming anniversary, how about a cake decorating contest?

I got the idea when I was searching for a picture of a GPS cake. Came across this site
http://www.gisday.com/showcase/cakes-2007.html

People could submit a photo of their cake and then everyone could vote on their favorite. The winner would get a special "cake" badge or something!

FYI - sadly, I would be unable to enter the contest, since I have absolutely no cake decorating skills. Although I am quite talented at eating cake.

How Long Has it Been?

Yes, I agree, congratulations and Happy Birthday in order for the site.

That said - I'd like to see a "Member Since..." line in the account status.

My Account shows me to have been a member for 1 year and 22 weeks.

Funny - I was at a year and 26 weeks a few weeks ago. I'm getting younger. wink

And as posted for Miss POI - "second week in a row showing 1 year, 50 weeks..."

And now, back to your regularly scheduled forum - already in progress . . .

Time Flies

Yikes, I've been here exactly one and a half years. Times flies when your having fun at a great site. Congrats Miss POI and keep on POI'ing!

New Badge

Here is an idea for a new badge set. A birthday cake with the number on it to match the years you have been a member.

Anyway... For whenever it is "Happy Birthday" to the best POI site around.

Thanks Miss POI and JM...

Thanks for putting up this site.

Mazel Tov on your accomplishments of the past two years

Hearing about this anniversary reminds me that POI is in it's infancy. GPSr are too.

Many of us have been disgruntled for one irritation or another. But aren't those irritations simply growing pains of an area of interest experiencing hyper-growth?

Once upon a time I met the legendary Grace Hopper of blessed memory (The grandmother of Cobol, her staff coined the term debug, and Admiral USN among her many accolades). She spoke of computing being in it's infancy or it's Model-T age. As the Model-T grew up and as computers grew up reliability improved. So too will GPS and POI grow in reliability and consistency. Just as roads were paved, so to will maps better reflect reality.

So, to the folks at POI-Factory, and the members here online, Thank you so much for your pioneering efforts. Thank you for making our journeys more delightful. And thank you for challenging us and the hardware, software, map, poi, and FM connectivity providers to do more! In aviation we call that "pushing the envelope."

Thanks!
