Nuvi 200 v5.00 firmware

I downloaded and installed this today. No smoke came pouring out -- so far, so good. I will take it out on the road tomorrow and see if I can detect any problems. Sorry, but I don't remember exactly what the release notes said. Something about working better with PC software.

Thanks for being the guinea pig.

Thanks for being the guinea pig. We look forward to hearing your report. Sounds like it shouldn't affect on-the-road use.

That's what it was! Thanks.

Nuvi 200 Software Version 5

Mine didn't behave any differently yesterday after the update. It took a minute or so for the unit to unpack the new software after turning it on in the car, but it seems to be pretty much the same. I haven't hooked it up to the PC yet though - that comes later today.

new software

I downloaded and installed the new software this morning. So far, everything seems to be working just fine with the 350 and the Mac. Let's hope.

5.0

Im assuming the 5.0 rev is just a minor upgrade for plug and play compatibility for various apps that tie into it. I didnt notice any change once I upgraded.

Turn by Turn bug fix?

Did they fix the previous firmware bug where you no longer got advance warning of an upcoming turn and would only be told of the turn AT THE TURN?

Yes

Yes. That was fixed in the previous update.

Opp-sey

Ya I just found it and was going to post back but you beat me to it.

For anyway else wonder, version 4.30 broke the turn by turn advance warning and then v4.40 fixed it.

Sorry about that. I am still running an earlier version than 4.30 so haven't updated at all in a while.

P.S. Can anyone confirm that WAV files still work on the 200 with the new firmware?

Map Scale?

I think I know the answer, but has the map scale been restored? That would make it worth installing.

I have never seen that problem in my 200. Depending on speed, the first warning comes up at least 4/10ths of a mile before the turn and then begins to count down. The last warning is usually quite close to the turn (a couple hundred feet) and if there is a turn lane, you are often past the entrance to the lane.

Minor or Major revision?

Usually minor updates are indicated by revision numbers such as 4.40 going to 4.50. This sounds like a minor update from the change log but I suspect that the 5.00 indicates a major revision in Garmin's view.

That might be explained if the Nuvi 200 firmware now includes the protection that stops users from reverting to a previous firmware version like they recently did on the 760/770.

If anyone tests this, I'd be very interested in the results. For now, I'm holding off on switching to 5.00 as I haven't had any issues with PC connectivity or PC application support.

It would be nice if Garmin would at least list the current firmware version for ALL their models on their web site.

funny

funny how my 200W only has software version 3.60 as the latest - i thought they were supposed to be the same except for the screen size?

New Download

I installed the new version also, what is supposed to be different?

Wide vs Non-Wide

The only difference is the screen width, as far as I know, but they do use different firmware versions.

I had it direct me to work this morning and did part of the way in 3D mode and part in track up. Seemed fine either way. On the drive home, I just had it turned on and following along. No problems there, either.

Just for 200?
