Street Pilot 340C

I asked that question a while back to Garmin and this was the answer.It does change the route when a better one is found.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. You will not be given any
prompts (screen touches) and you simply continue your route based on the
highlighted road.

I had that happen to me last month when I was driving. It didn't appear to auto change the route. I noticed some of the roads it wanted me to take on my route, stopped the trip, had it compute a new route, and observed the roads it wanted me to take then. They were totally different routes. It appears to me that you have to have it recalculate a new route for it to show you the better route.

Not according to Garmin.I have had this happen a few times to me on route back and forth to Florida.The first time caught me off guard and it did change the route.I kept going and it recaluated the route back to orginial route.The next time I was ready for it coming back to VA.I knew the route well and before coming to 301 it said new route found and I had just looked at the stops ahead and noticed it was now taking me around a small town.I changed nothing just followed the new route.

Several times I my C340 told me a better route is available. In all cases Jill (my C340) gave me the route I was driving. At this point (in a couple of instances) I stoped and tried to figure out what was happening. Restarted my trip and Jill routed me the same way. "a better route is available" is always told to me very near my destination. Now I just laugh about it as I know Jill must be smoking wild weed or something at times, or the Garmin programmer was when they developed this program.

By the way, the C340 is a super product. Love mine - it has saved me from being lost quite a few times. Extremely accurate and easy to use.

All I can say is that going down I75 I had the exit I was to get off on showing on the screen then better route message came up showing another exit to take sooner.I continue on since I was caught off guard but did look at map when I got to hotel and newer route would have gotten me there.So I guess my Jill is not smoking anything.

My C340 will occasionally do this, and it just automatically sets the new route. It's unclear to me what triggers it, since sometimes it's the same route I've gone dozens of times, and it'll pick a "better route" one time out of 15 or so. But I just go with the flow.
