Proximity Alerts

When I set up a proximity alert, lets say 3,000 ft for a Walmart. How close does the Walmart have to be to the road I am driving on before my Garmin alerts me at the 3,000 ft point? Do I have to be 3,000 from Walmart or does Walmart have to be a certain distance from my path to alert me at 3,000 ft? If it is a specific distance from the route I am taking how far is it? Thanks

This is one topic that is open for discussion.Most will say the coordinates have to be at least within 50 ft from the road to get the alert.If you are travelling on the same road of the location you should get the alert at the distance you set unless the coordinates are way off.

I was hoping that I could be

I was hoping that I could be on a highway and have it alert me to a restaurant, etc that is adjacent to the highway via the off ramp. That would be nice, otherwise why would I need to be alerted to something I can see as I drive by it on my route?

When I first started out I

When I first started out I was hoping to get alarms from travelling down I95 but found out unless the location was close to the interstate or I was on the same road I would not get te alert.Your unit I believe has mp3 if so you can get more of a radius alert by using TourGuide file.
