Multiple POI files

Each time you load files to a device (Garmin or SD card), all of the files are replaced. If you have file x and y on your unit and then load z, only z will be present. Therefore, you need to have all of your .csv fies in one location i.e. a folder on your PC, and then point PC loader to that location as the source. Each .csv will be listed as a separate listing on your Garmin. If you keep the folder on your PC up to date, then you will not notice the deletion and replacement.

Using the beta version of POI Loader, you can further breakdown your POI's in categories with subfolders.

See the FAQ's for more information.

ques

Hi

thankx u r idea.

but i still have questions.

I Using the beta version of POI Loader from Garmin...

i download red camera csv from A to M, and i download other csv file copy and paste from O to W.

but doesn't work ????why ??

copy and paste

If you're using Excel, your POI data can only use the first 3 or 4 columns (A - D). So if you're trying to combine data into a single file, you'll need to paste the data *BELOW* any data that's already in the file.

It's probably not a good idea to combine your red light POIs with other POI types because you won't be able to use separate alert settings (unless you want to be alerted for everything).

The easiest way to load multiple files is to put them all in the same folder and then run POI Loader to transfer them all at once.

what kind file .....

For discussion, let's separate this into two functions. The first is creating POI files. As JM mentioned, a POI file in .csv form can be downloaded directly from this site or you can create your own (in excel, the first 4 columns are the only ones used and should be in the format as described in the FAQ's).

Once you have several .csv files, such as Red-Light cameras, Lowes's, etc., you will store these files in a folder on your PC. When you use POI-loader to move them to your GPS, you will select the folder on your PC as the source. All of the files will be loaded onto your GPS. (Each time you run POI-Loader, you erase all the custom files on your GPS and replace them with the ones in your PC folder. Therefore, you should always maintain this folder with all of the .csv files you want for your GPS)

On my c530, the POI's show up under EXTRAS on the menu. You will then see the single entry menu with your Custom POI's. Selecting that entry will provide a menu of all of the POI files you have created (i.e. Red-light cameras, Lowe's, etc.). Select the one you are interested in and you will see the closest locations to which you can navigate.

Now, if you want to further break down the listing of your POI files on your GPS i.e. you now have 6-10 different files that take up multiple screens, you can change your folder layout on your PC and use a newer version of POI-Loader, POI-Loader (beta)2.4.0. In that case, from within the main folder that you have for your POI's, you can create several other additional folders and place the POI files in them. Then, for example, you might have folders for: Traffic, Stores, Locations, etc. When selecting the main POI folder as your source within POI Loader, the GPS will now show these menu headings when you select Custom POI's.

The streetpilot c320 does not support POI's from the SD card. They should be stored internally. Do not buy an SD card for that purpose. See http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1265 for more information.

Regarding display of custom POIs, although they are all stored in the unit, only the closest 50 of each type will be displayed (in order of distance from your position).

David, For each POI, your

David,
For each POI, your unit will only display the 50 closest to your current position, if you do a search for other locations in that POI file, it will show up.. Always remember it will only show 50 closest to your current position that is why they are sorted not by name but by distance from your current location.

help

hi

do u have any ideas i can transfer poi csv files to mySD casr??

how about i use card reader ???

--

c320 and SD card

The c320 does not read POI's from the SD card. I believe this question was answered earlier.

--
Garmin StreetPilot c530, Mapsource

C320 uses SD card only for all files

Just for clarification...

Since the C320 does not have an internal hard drive, it stores the "gmapsupp.img" map file with the POI information inside the file in the SD card.

In our C320 we have all the NA maps loaded into the file along with vaious POI files and it is 940 meg in size (1 gig SD card).

One thing I did notice was that if you try to install a large POI file (i.e., schools), it really slows down the C320. Also there might be a limit to the amount of POI files based on each garmin device.

Cheers.

question

Hi

my c no HD. my map is install my SD card, so I want to know how can i transfer poi files tomy SD card, because I want transfer more poi files...

I thought your questions were answered

Keep all the POI files you want to down load in the same folder, since new POI download will over write the previous POI downloads.

When you use the Garmin POI Loader, all you do is designate a folder to download POI files to the C320.
All the POI files in the designated folder will be downloaded. If all the files are NOT downloaded, it could be due to the POI file size limitation of the C320.

Question on your clarification to davidlee168

Sanger wrote:

Maybe I misunderstood davidlee168's question, but he seems to want to download POI files (custom POI's) to the SD card. It was my understanding from others on this website that the c320 can only use the SD card for maps and that it cannot read the downloaded POI files (custom POI's) from the SD card. He seems to be wanting to download POI's to the SD card despite several responses earlier that he should only download them to the Garmin c320.

Garmin StreetPilot c530, Mapsource

maybe

Maybe davidlee168 wants to take the custom pois he has been able to load to his c320 (from his prior posts), and move them to an SD card. Then load more to the c320.
I don't think he has grasped the overwriting thing.

Only a guess on my part.

I have to give major Kudo's to Mkahn for working on this one smile

Hi.

can not transfer POI from gps to SD card

Sorry, as far as I now you can not transfer the POI files from the C320 GPS to the SD card...

It is actually on the SD card but combined into one big file.

maybe

Davidlee168

The 320 unit will only allow poi's to be directly loaded to the unit, that you know already.

You can use a card reader/writer and load poi's to the SD card also by using poi loader. Please understand, that will only be basically an SD storage container. You won't be able to use the poi's from the sd card for anything other than storage. The 320 will not read the poi's off of the sd card.

When you load another poi file to the 320, the ones that you have on there now will go away and the new ones will show up. If you want what is on there now plus new ones, you will have to load again what you have on there now plus the new ones.

If you are planning a trip, you will have to be picky on which poi's you want to take along, if maybe you have too many.

OR if traveling

If you have a laptop computer, you could put the poi files on the laptop, and transfer from the laptop to the 320 when you needed to. Make sure you have the poi loader on the laptop.

help

Hi

I use a card reader/writer and load poi's to the 2GB SD card also by using poi loader.

but when i turn on and go to custome poi to see it.
still not show other poi files ??

--
I'm first time to use GPS, I don't know about that, so you guys have any file can share???

Only way to load the POI

Only way to load the POI files into your Garmin C320 is to use the software below in the same computer you used to load the map into the Garmin C320. All the POI files have to be in the same folder.

http://www.garmin.com/products/poiloader/

http://www.garmin.com/support/agree.jsp?id=927

davidlee168

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/1265

Even though the c320 has a SD card slot, it cannot read custom POI data from a SD card.

Custom poi c320 only internal NOT SD card

Please read more about sd card and poi and c320 here

http://www.poi-factory.com/node/268

One other suggestion:
Put a piece of tape over the SD Card slot, and forget it has one.

Files

Davidlee168,

All file shares are found on the "POI files" and "red light cameras" page. There is a search button on the top of each page.

Seems like lots of folks are asking repeat questions. We should encourage them to use the search function to find the info they need and if they can't find it, then post a question to the site.
