mac problems

I seem to be having problems following instructions for creating csv files. Part of the problem is that I am using a Mac and it won't let me save some files with the csv extension. when I find a program that does let me save a file, then the poi loader says there are no files in the folder. I t does, however, recognize and use the csv files downloaded from the factory. Others that I tried to download from sites like the NUVI tips and tricks are completely ignored. Of course the computer won't have anything to do with things like exe files so all kinds of programs that I assume would be helpful are not available. Can anyone offer any suggestions other than to reconnect my old pc and listen to the wife scream about the added rats nest of wires?

I use Excel

I use Excel on my Mac. It works fine for me. I use four columns, long., lat, name, address and other info. If you want to keep the address stacked, rather than running in a straight line, use "option return" then remember to reset all your rows back to 15 high when done. The save as a csv file.

If you have an Intel Mac with OS 10.5, you can also install Windows under Bootcamp and boot into Windows and use your GPS on that side. I used to do that. There was more available for the PC regarding the Nuvi and my needs.

Thanks. I do have the Intel,

Thanks. I do have the Intel, parallels. Bootcamp and some other things that I also do not understand too well so I will try Excell first and see if I can work that out. Perhaps putting the Dell PC back into service will be the inevitable end. This is just another confirmation that computers are not meant for those of us over 80. Thanks again for the advice.

What version of Office are you using?

Text Edit, Apple Works, & NeoOffice can all make CSV files...

Simple CSV files can be created in any text editor. Text Edit on the Mac works fine.

For those without Excel on their Macs, alternative spreadsheet programs include Apple Works (you may already have a copy on your Mac) and NeoOffice (a free download).

If you want to try it with a simple text editor, like Text Edit, one easy way to start is to simply download an existing CSV file from the Factory, open it with Text Edit (drag and drop the file onto the Text Edit icon) and you can see the format. You could also begin your own CSV file by doing a Save As... give it a new name, then delete everything in the file except for the first POI and use that as a template to build your own version. You can delete the first POI once you have your own in there that can then be used as a template.

Microsoft Office 2008 I will

Microsoft Office 2008
I will try and follow the excell examples and see what happens. I finally got word to save with the csv extension, but the poi loader doesn't like that either.
I think my best bet is to adopt a teenager. Preferably female and over 18. Then I won't need the gps at all; I'll be happily dead. Seriously, many thanks.

success

Unbelievable! I finally made moron first class instead of idiot. With all your kind help I was able to find coordinates from a map, write a test redlight location and get the unit to alert me as I drove by. At least in simulation. You have no idea how good that feels after 2 days of messing everything up. Even if I never use any self made alerts or poi locations, I still have that good feeling of accomplishment. Many many thanks to all of you for the instructions and advice.

Don't ever give up

With the equipment you seem to have, keep trying and forget the Dell!!
