Look's like a great little

Look's like a great little program , I made the install and getting error messages transfering data from nuvi making corrections but cant get them to transfert back to unit . Longitude and lattitude are not loading correctly maybe a problem at my end .

nuvi editor

It works pretty slick. Save some favorites and then deleted them.

Worked............but...

I tried it on my 750. It worked Ok with the 750.

The only trouble I had was when you are building the waypoints with the NuviEditor. The NAME can't be changed from "Add_Item". If you build 4 waypoints they all show up on the Editor as "Add_Item" and when you load them into your Nuvi they show up as: Add_Item, Add_item-1,Add_Item-2 etc....

There they can be renamed but the instructions say to create the Name while in the NuviEditor

The GeoCoder and Google Maps worked fine.
And the waypoints have all the data in them that was input into the NuviEditor.

Will this possibly be useful for correcting the skewed location of my home address? I still get an incorrect location on the home, very annoying.

260

Only a very small test on my Nuvi 260. Moving a friend's house location from where both Google Maps and the internal map insists his house is to where it actually is (over 200 yards).

Perfect placement now.

Thanks

Extraneous Points On 680

This program works well for me on my 680, BUT there is one problem. I connected as directed, downloaded my Favorites to NuviEditor, made the changes I wanted to make, then uploaded them back to the 680. When I did this, I was sorry to see that instead of replacing my Favorites with the edited versions, NuviEditor simply merged the new versions and the old versions together, adding a " 1" to the end of the names of the new versions of the POIs.

So now my 680 has two entries for all the POIs I had, the unedited version with the original name, and the edited version with a " 1" appended.

Is there any way to easily erase all the Favorites on the 680 before uploading the edited POIs?

Regards,

Nuvi 660 -- and not upgrading it or maps until Garmin fixes long-standing bugs/problems, and get maps to where they are much more current, AND corrected on a more timely basis when advised of mistakes.

Hi geochapman,

You're guess is right...

I emailed the software's creator and no, there isn't a Mac version, nor is there one in the works.

Duplicate POI's

In testing nuvi editor on my 660 I found that if the lat & lon had not changed then the old data in the waypoint would be replaced with the new. In other words I might edit one waypoint then save ALL of them back to the nuvi and there were no duplicates as you described. However, I have found that there seems to be significant differences in the way some of the different models work.

Let me suggest this. Load your favorites into the nuvi as before. Edit the ones you want to edit. Delete all the rest from the program. Then send the ones you edited back to the nuvi.

When you load favorites into the program, you can delete them all day from nuvi editor but they will still remain on your gps. That is because nuvi editor reads the outbound file as determined in the 'GarminDevice.xml' file on your gps. It can't delete anything from your GPS.

I hope to make future improvements and fixes. I have seen that it would be useful to include an import & export to cvs and to include the desc and comment fields.

Thanks for trying it out

Some thoughts... (nuvi 680)

I used it to extract some favorites in hope of creating a custom poi gpx file. So, I "received" my favorites, and saved it onto my hard drive, then deleted out the ones I didn't want in the custom file. Then I started to edit the file.

some things I encountered:

I think you should rethink the ctrl-x hot key for exit. I was trying to cut and paste some info, and wondering why the program kept crashing...

I can't edit the "name" field (except on new items). It keeps reverting to the original value. If this is somehow a limit of the file, then lock the name control so that I don't think I can change the value.

So, after I loaded my gpx file back into the nuvi using POI loader, most of the info was gone. sad The poi name, and location seemed correct, but the rest of the stuff was not displayed on my nuvi.

Try tabbing out of the field

I noticed the same thing. But the edits "stick" if you use the Tab key to move from field to field. Use any other method to move from field to field and it will revert back to the previous data.

That's rather bad news to hear that it doesn't support the standard hotkeys, either.

update...

Tabbing out of name field works for me. Kinda quirky, but that I can live with.

New gripe:
Highlighted some text in the name field, wanted to delete it. I hit the delete key. BAM! POI deleted.

I'd make it harder to delete items, like only by clicking on the button, or from the menus. Currently, the only way to delete some text when in a field, is to either backspace, or highlight and type over.

Changes

Thank you all for your suggestions. I am working on a new version now. It will be up on my website when I get it done. I will check out the problems with the name field and I will fix the Ctl-X issue. It might be a little while before these corrections as well as some others are taken care of but it will be as soon as possible. Unfortunately, life intervenes and I cannot spend as much time on it as I would like to. Each revision I make, I will make a note of it on my website so you always know what version you are getting.

I appreciate your suggestions. One thing that will always be a problem is that different nuvi's display this information differently. Sometimes, especially with 'favorites' you can only store name, street, city, state and 1 phone. You may find that the same nuvi will display more of the possible fields when saved as a POI. I encourage you to experiment.

Be sure to follow Garmin's recommendations concerning unplugging when your computer says it is safe to do so, EVEN if you already have write-caching disabled.

Name Field

I want to thank you for pointing this out. I have always TABBed between controls in Windows forms so I negligently missed this anomaly. I have corrected this in the new build I am working on. I am making several other revisions based on feedback. I hope to have revision V1.01 up by Monday evening, central US.

Thank you

Windows standard

Q wrote:

Tabbing from field to field is a Windows interface standard. Works everywhere. So are:
Ctrl-C - Copy
Ctrl-X - Cut (delete)
Ctrl-V - Insert (paste)
These all apply to text editing in text fields.

.

I'm well aware of those standards. In fact, I already pointed out the non-standard use of ctrl-x as exit, and the non-standard use of deleting the poi when hitting the delete key.

But as a developer, one must also adhere (as much as possible) to the standards of human behavior. If a user only needs to edit one field, they will usually click on the field, edit it, and then click save. I tabbed from field to field when entering new records, but when I was editing existing records, I saw no need to tab to a field I did not want to edit. Ideally, both behaviors would cause the data to change.

All of these things are minor, and trivial, and quirky, but slowjim asked for input, so we're giving it. I think it is a cool and useful piece of software, and look forward to using updated versions.

Keep up the good work!
