Problems with Converting Data

I've started to create my first POI file. After pulling Addresses I need I input them into GPS Visualizer's BATCH conversion and use that. However, I'm doing thousands of addresses (Well it will be, when I'm done) and Have to copy and paste the coordinates, around.. Below is an example.

200 Taunton Road East WHITBY, ON L1R 3H8 (905) 666-5133

Converts as..........

43.917198,-78.949631,"200 Taunton Road East WHITBY, ON L1R 3H8 (905) 666-5133",-,

So now, I have to copy the -78.949631 and Move it to the start of the line, ending with...

-78.949631,43.917198,"200 Taunton Road East WHITBY, ON L1R 3H8 (905) 666-5133",-,

Is there an EASIER way to do this???? This way is taking forever. I wish the conversion would put it in the right place, but doing it by hand is a slow and painful process.

Thanks for your help.

.

Open the CSV with Excel and swap the columns.

I changed it to ..

I changed the website so that link will open on the same browser window instead of opening a new browser window. See if that helps you any.

If it's a one time swap....

If it's a one time swap of information, Excel would be your answer. Another option would be a simple Access table. You can create and maintain the data in any format or order and then use a simple query to re-order the columns for output.

.bmp

The Garmin uploader is telling me that the file needs to be in a .csv or .gpx format.

Any help with this part?

.

POI Loader loads Custom POI files that are either in CSV or GPX file format.

If you are trying to Custom Icons to go with your Custom POIs, you need to load them at the same time as your Custom POIs.

Be sure to follow these instructions.

POI Loader will load all csv and gpx files in the directory (and a single level of subdirectories) to which you point as the source. In addition, if, when you load these files you also include a bmp and/or mp3 (named the same), in the same folder as the given POI file, those images and audio alerts will be incorporated into the resulting POI.gpi file that is created. POI Loader will not add a bmp (or mp3) to an existing POI.gpi file.

Might this explain what you are seeing?

this is what I get.

"Please select the directory where the Data files can be found." I Browse to find the folder i have saved the BMP to (saved as bmp's) and this is what I get next screen.

"No Data files in that directory. Please specify a directory that contains at least one file with a .csv or .gpx extension"

Am I saving them in the wrong folder? Possibly getting my folders, files and directories confused with one another? I'm not the most computer litterate person. LOL.

You need to place the BMPs in the same folder on your computer as the Custom POI file (whether it's a CSV or a GPX) that corresponds to the BMP. And as shown in the instructions I linked (and as bentbiker posted), you must name them properly.

You cannot simply load BMPs by themselves.

For example, it might look like this.

> My POI (Main folder)
>> IHOP (subfolder)
... IHOP.csv
... IHOP.bmp
>> National Parks (subfolder)
... National Parks.gpx
... National Monuments.gpx
... National Recreation areas.gpx
... National Parks.bmp
... National Monuments.bmp
etc.

.
What Custom POI file and BMP are you trying to load?

.

A folder is a directory. As I said above, ". . . if, when you load these files you also include a bmp and/or mp3 (named the same), in the same folder as the given POI file, those images and audio alerts will be incorporated into the resulting POI.gpi file." You don't say whether your POI files (csv and gpx) are in the same folders as the bmp files.

I wasn't reading the explanations correctly. My wife finally came in and did exactly as you both described and it seems to have worked.
