Does my NUVI work different in Europe?

My NUVI 250W is an Australian. Just arrived in Europe (Ireland) on holiday with the full Europe mapset.

The first thing I noticed was that everything just worked - how good is that!

Then I noticed that the turns were being announced about 25% (distance wise) earlier than I am used to. I realise that the point relates to how fast you are going but at an equivalent speed they are always earlier than I usually expect.

Have they built in some crazy driver rule? They really are crazy here in Ireland wink (But very nice people out of their cars, trucks, tractors, etc, etc)

This might be possible.

Maybe the Europe mapset you purchased has a compensating "Guinness Adjustment" for Ireland?
Adding 25% more time for turning might just work:)

I would say yes. The only time if I am not mistaken is when you go below the equator. There everything runs counterclockwise, so all route turns would be backwards to those north of the equator.
And visa-versa for those coming from south of the equator to north of the equator, their route turns would be backwards to their normal turns. Because everything north turns clockwise.

Guinnes or Counterclockwise...

I might have to investigate the Guinness theory more closely - a visit to the Guinness factory is called for - I might then be tempted to watch which way the bath drains for more enlightenment.... if I can remember what the objective was....

This is just a guess. Could it be the different between miles versus kilometers? Does your unit allow you to switch between those measurement?

Maybe you need to change to kilometers...

Agreed. As a proponent of extrapolating untested theories, I think this is the best course of action to ensure a well-founded basis for a conclusion.

Not related to Miles

Good thought but no. Same with Miles in Northern Ireland as Km in Ireland.Check UK later in the week.

A Pint - or two...

I just remembered this thread, in the context of the Nüvi 7xx firmware woes.

One of thing that U.S. users have complained of, with the latest 7xx firmware, is that turns are now announced too late. Yet, no European users seem to suffer that particular problem.

So, maybe there is a difference in the way that turns are announced, that is related to the Mapset in use?

(When I was in Florida, I thought there was something slightly different about the way the 760 was announcing turns. I couldn't quite put my finger on it and decided it was because I don't use the 760 very often in the UK.)

was awesome...took two, in case one broke...sorry but I always like a back-up! Went from the top of France to the botton by boat. We visited everything. My trusty Nuvi 350/360 took us everywher without a hitch, these things are the greatest. I could not, wouldnot go without mine, EVER!!
