Proximity Alert

Do all Custom POI files contain proximity alerts or will that information be specified by the creator?

Thanks

proximity alerts

poi's will not have proximity alerts unless they are named in a certain fashion or you yourself set them up to alert manually.

If you see a poi file named by these names
Redlight, Speed, GATSO, Mobile, SPECS, Safety, or Camera then a default proximity alerts will be present.

You can also set up a proximity alert without having to use these names. I set one up for known CheckPoints and named the poi CheckPoint.

In this case you will need to use poi loader and choose
manual when loading your poi's. The standard setting is default. You will just need to change that drop down menu to manual. After this you will be given a choice to set distance and if your speed has anything to do with the alert going off. It's very simple, you just need to see it visually to understand....

Hope this helped....

Do each of these names have

Do each of these names have the same alert or are they different?

Redlight, Speed, GATSO, Mobile, SPECS, Safety, or Camera

Well, Yes and No

Well, Yes and No. The RedLight file name will Alert when you are within a 400 meter perimeter. The Speed File name will only Alert if you are above the posted speed limit for that area. If you remain under the user specified speed, you will get no alert. However, if you exceed that specified speed, a beep will sound every second to remind you of your speed, until either you slow down below the set speed or pass the POI. You can add Speed limits by putting Speed@35 or what ever the posted speed limit is in the 3rd line of your poi. I honestly haven't had any experience with the other file names so I can't speak on them.

Can someone shed some light

Can someone shed some light on POI names like GATSO, MOBILE, SPECS and SAFETY? What is the meaning of all these and how these names can be used? I will appreciate it.

Setting Proximity Alerts

In addition to the preset values by using the name in the file, when you use POI Loader (beta) in manual mode, you can set the distance for the proximity (or speed for speed alarms). There have been several discussions on this board regarding the hierarchy of these alarms. Do a search for proximity alarms and also for speed alarms.

GATSO are speed cameras used

GATSO are speed cameras used in the UK

http://www.speedcamerasuk.com/gatso.htm

MOBILE refers to the mobile speed camers also used in the UK

http://www.bbc.co.uk/insideout/southwest/series7/speed-camer...

SPECS also speed cameras utilized in Europe

http://www.speedcheck.co.uk/

SAFETY also camera system in Europe

Map of Europe with GATSO, MOBILE, SPECS locations as well as others

This doesn't mean that you can't use the terms in your files. You could assign for example MOBILE to maybe an area in your neck of the woods where the police like to hang out with the radar/laser gun.

Maybe you could use GATSO (rhyming with FATSO) to alert someone that their favorite donut shop is nearby.

Use your imagination, and don't be constrained by "rules" Most of all have fun!
