GTMxx Traffic Receiver Firmware update

confused Today I noted that Web Update software located a firmware update for the GTM Traffic receiver for my 760. It says it adds support for "next generation RDS" Traffic.

The only references I found to this on the net were related to an alleged move away from TMC's RDS offerings to TPEG in Europe.

Are we going to see something else here in the US? Is it simply competition among protocols or improved user experiences of real value at the core of this?

Found and installed today as well

No problems noted after the install, but I'm still waiting for my power cable/antenna to return from Garmin (RMA) before I can check any functionality changes (could have really used it today).

There were also a number of voice updates available today.

Very Interesting Observation LaManchaDQ

I read a number of articles that google brought up on this subject and you seem correct. Many were 2 years old, some much newer. Notice the silence for the last 6 months between articles. I wonder if we are going to see something very nice coming our way soon. Hmmm

More reliable

Between getting my cable/antenna back (actually a new cable) and the update, performance has been quite good for me. Quick acquisition and a "green" LED - two characteristics I had not previously seen! So far, so good...

I for one has been very appreciative of the traffic capability of my TMC enabled Nuvi 760. It's been beneficial for me from the beginning.

Since the update, though I haven't been in a situation that I could evaluate any differences in the service after the update.

I got the update

I got the update, too, and the traffic receiver worked all day today for the first time in months. I hope it continues.
